Las Vegas producer/DJs Shelco Garcia & Teenwolf have gained notoriety over the past few years thanks to their dynamic productions and exceptional live performances. Discovered by Laidback Luke, the duo have had the opportunity to produce for the likes of Madonna and have also been supported by Will.I.Am, Kid Sister and Miley Cyrus.
We had a chance to catch up with the super talented duo to talk about their latest single ‘Dreaming’, early influences, upcoming releases and much more! Read on.
TBB: Hey, first things first, for those who don’t know about Shelco Garcia & Teenwolf, tells us a bit about yourselves.
SG & TW: We’re Shelco Garcia and Teenwolf from Las Vegas, NV we’re DJ/producers signed to Mixmash Records. We make everything from house, trap, jump up, moombahton, dancehall, reggae and everything in between.
TBB: Your new track ‘Dreaming’ with Philly K & Madi Rindge came out recently. Can you talk us through the production of the single?
SG & TW: We received the vocal from Philly K whom we had just featured on our previous single “Blow Up” and instantly fell in love with the vocal he and Madi Rindge did, the production we did in maybe all in all one day because it instantly inspired us.
TBB: How did your journey in the music industry begin? Did you guys always know you wanted to be a musician or were there any other plans as well?
SG: I was a drummer in a punk rock band all throughout middle and high school, when we went on tour for a bit I was too young to stay in the club with them so I’d go back to the van and work on production.
TW: In Vegas like Shelco, everyone was in a band that I was friends with…. and since I wasn’t a very good guitar player I started making beats and rapping over them so i could perform at house parties and that’s how I got into making music in general.
TBB: Which artists do you think have had a big influence on your development as a musician?
SG & TW: Laidback Luke has been a great mentor in this journey, always guiding us in the right direction or giving us feedback on tracks that we send him.
TBB: Having co-produced for Madonna alongside Diplo for her massive record, ‘Unapologetic Bitch’, how was the whole experience like?
SG & TW: We originally made the instrumental for a Major Lazer vocal Diplo had sent us, after we gave him a demo version of it he asked us to strip the vocal off and send the beat to him because we were going to do something bigger with it the rest is history.
TBB: Your tracks fuse in a lot of genres namely moombahton, dutch & electro house and more which does seem like a fresh breath of air in today’s lamented ‘EDM’ industry. Talk to us a bit about it.
SG & TW: We’re both Guatemalan and the latin flavor is in our blood, dutch and moombahton just felt right to us and we did what came natural from all the years growing up listening to salsa, merengue, reggaeton, bachata, and other latin music
TBB: How has your relationship with Laidback Luke & your journey with Mixmash been like over the years?
SG & TW: Luke and the Mixmash team push us to really be the best version of ourselves that we can be whether it’s in music, djing, and even our personal lives… we listen to some of the first versions of our songs and compare them to the final product we actually put out and it always make sense why they are constantly motivating us to push our boundaries.
TBB: Performing live and producing are both very important for an electronic artist to get the word out. Which one do you prefer more?
SG: Producing more than performing.. but still very much love performing.
TW: Performing then producing haha but same love being in the studio making new tracks for our fans and future fans.
TBB: With ‘Dreaming’ already doing incredibly well, what can expect from you for the rest of 2016?
SG & TW: We have a couple of records already done including collabs with Luke, DJ Carnage, Uberjakd, Juyen Sebulba, and more!
TBB: Top 3 Bangin Tracks at the moment?
SG & TW:
1. Wallstreet-Kronos
2. Juyen Sebulba-Blow Your Speakers
3. Junkie Kid & Gianni Marino-Equinox
