As we continue to cope with the shocking announcement made by Avicii regarding his retirement from touring and live performances, the Swedish superstar has already embarked on what might just be his last ever tour. During an interview with THR, Tim opened up about his retirement, upcoming plans, fame, illness and much more.
Talking about the major announcement which shook the dance music community, he said:
“I was nervous when I made the announcement, mainly that I would look ungrateful. But I’ve gotten so many supportive texts from friends in the industry, other DJs, other artists. The fan response has been incredible. And even the press response has been incredible. So yeah, its been a lot better than I expected.”
Avicii‘s industry peers had a few things to say which included the likes of Steve Angello, Steve Aoki, Nicky Romero, The Chainsmokers and many more. He also responded to the less-kind farewell that was given out by deadmau5 and shared his views.
“Yeah, I saw that. That’s fine. It’s not my problem if he can’t quit.”

Citing health issues as one of the main reasons for his retirement, Avicii shed light on the fact and stated that:
“To me it was something I had to do for my health. The scene was not for me. It was not the shows and not the music. It was always the other stuff surrounding it that never came naturally to me. All the other parts of being an artist. I’m more of an introverted person in general. It was always very hard for me. I took on board too much negative energy, I think.”
The ‘Wake Me Up‘ hit maker also talked about the newly found sense of relief that he finally is getting to soak in post issuing of his retirement.
“I just feel happy. I feel free at this point. Like I have my private life back and focusing on myself for the first time in a long time. This was obviously the hardest decision of my life so far. But so far it has paid off tremendously in terms of well-being for me. I’m happier than I have been in a very, very long time. Stress-free more than I have been in a very long time. I can’t say I’m never going to have a show again. I just don’t think I’m going to go back to the touring life.”
Despite his own decision to step away, Avicii says he thinks EDM, as a musical and commercial genre, still has a lot of life left in it.
“The music is still growing, it’s still evolving. That’s why, in a way, I had to make the decision I did. Because I don’t feel that EDM is going to stop. So I had to figure out how am I going to deal with that? Am I going to be able to go on this train for another eight years?”
Tim Bergling also had some good news for the fans as he confirmed a third album in the works.
“I’m collecting what I have left from the last eight years, stuff I’ve always loved but haven’t had an outlet for, and I’m seeing what to release and what not to release.”
And if you guys didn’t already know, Avicii recently premiered an unreleased track with Sia during a show in Dubai. Talking about the collaboration he said it was a demo and not the finished version. Moreover, he also hinted at more new music.
“It’s one of a lot of new songs that I haven’t finally worked out yet. That version isn’t the Sia/Avicii song. We’re still trying to find the right version.”
Also, fans should not feel disheartened because the star producer promises to continue working on new music and perhaps even more. Bergling also hinted he may branch out into other creative fields, though he didn’t provide any details, besides saying he planned “to play around a little bit and see what sticks, see what I feel I’m good at and what I enjoy.”
A bitter-sweet feeling indeed, it is relieving to see that Avicii can finally be in the space he wishes to be in and work his magic. Nonetheless, he will be sorely missed on the mainstage. Fingers crossed, we hope that the Swedish icon marks a remarkable return onto the public eye at a certain point during his career.
