The German duo of Markus Kaiser & Alex Souzai have been creating waves for quite a while in the music space. There were more then a few who have certified that Kaiser Souzai have created a new musical genre. They have carved their own niche, somewhere between dark tech, synth loaded electronica and art rock techno gigantism. Now, just ahead of this duo’s India tour, we caught up with them for a little conversation.
TBB: How does it feel to be coming to India?
KS: Very much looking forward to finally come to India, it’s about time!
TBB: Have you heard about the Indian audience and their tastes? And if so, What have you heard?
KS: They listen to a wide variety of music. Started out with all the psy trance and so called Goa and went on in different directions including House, Tech and EDM. As far as we know, it has pretty strong underground current as well, which is exactly where we fit in.

TBB: What made you want to remix the Pulp Fiction theme?
KS: Oh, long time ago, we simply loved the movie and had some fun with it.
TBB: Your production “1976” stands out vastly as compared to your other stuff. It is said that it is inspired from the 70’s Art-rock movement. It’s also got alot of accoustical, atmospheric and synthesizer elements. Tell us how you came up with it and put it all together? and how hard or easy was the entire production process?
KS: Yes, that is a very complex track, where Markus played all the guitars as well, but compared to it’s complex structure it went down rather quick, simply we were so inspired to do it. So once in a while we put out something rather different. “1980” is another good example of that. Inspired by rather 80ties sounds and arps.

TBB: From starting out as only producers as first, you guys came out as DJing. Do you think making the transition to mixing for crowds live was easy?
KS: For Markus personally not at all, he is a drummer, played in bands, being onstage since twelve years old. It was a simple return. For Alex it was an easy transition as well, simply because he has been DJing before the project started.
TBB: Would you prefer playing at a festival or at a club? and why?
KS: Different things bring on different fun. You can’t really compare, but we like the festivals not being too big, so you still have a touch to the audience. If we can’t communicate at least with the first rows anymore, it’s too messy for our taste.
TBB: You guys have played all around the world. Which has been your favourite venue to play at?
KS: It’s not so much about the venue, but the country and people that stick with us. We love Beirut, Buenos Aires, Ko Phangan, Berlin. Kiev was cool, Russian hospitality, Japanese friendliness, New Zealand is beautiful. Melbourne has an awesome vibe….. where sould we stop?! Nation of Gondwana is an insane festival, Sisyphos Hammerhalle a great stage to play…. Better stop now, or we go on forever….

TBB: Who would you say are your inspirations when it comes to producing music?
KS: Some Classic, some Rock, some Techno, some House, some everything excluding Punk, Opera and modern R’nB. We have been listening all sorts of stuff, sucking it in.
TBB: What are your top 3 #bangin tracks right now?
KS: Christian Smith “Day One”
Pan Pot “Fugitives” (Joseph Capriati Remix)
Kaiser Souzai “The First Rebirth 3.0
