Martijn Garritsen, known by his stage name Martin Garrix, is one of the leading DJs in the world, at only 18 years old. Even if you’ve been living under a rock, ‘Animals’ is a track you can’t deny you haven’t heard, as the track took over everyplace from a supermarket to all the clubs. Garrix, at the age of seventeen, became the youngest producer to ever have a song reach number one on the electronic music store Beatport with ‘Animals’.

Martjin successfully intimidates all 18 year olds in the world as he respectfully holds the #4 position on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ’s for 2014. According to the website Celebrity Net Worth, Martin Garrix is worth 14 million dollars. This doesn’t actually seem that big of a deal when you compare his net worth to that of other Dutch DJ’s such as Tiësto (90 million dollars) or Armin van Buuren (46 million dollars). But considering the fact that Garrix is only 18 years old, I think we can all agree that the young DJ has done pretty damn well.

He is all set to take up Ultra Music Festival, Miami by storm later this month as he is the youngest headliner in the lineup this year. His beginning into the world of music production was indeed a very humble one. He stuck to playing his original melodies on his guitar. Most DJ’s we are blessed with today, have spoken of their moment of epiphany only on witnessing a great act live. Martin Garrix is no different. He never considered a real career in the music industry until catching Tiësto’s set at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Garrix on Tiësto : “He played trance music, and that was such a new thing, I liked it so much that I bought a shitty DJ set.

At the mere age of 10, Garrix used to DJ for small events and weddings with the guise, DJ Marty. Did you know Martin Garrix was a student at the esteemed arts school, Herman Brood Academie?

After enrolling himself at Herman Brood, he found himself being discovered by Spinning’ Records. And the rest as they very correctly say, is history.

I went to the Herman Brood because I wanted to learn more about production, not because I was like, ‘I’m going to make my money with music.’ But when Spinnin’ Records found me and offered me a contract, we started working together, and that was the first time I was like, ‘F***, this could be serious.

Martin Garrix, at 18 has already collaborated with the biggest names in the industry including Afrojack, Hardwell, Dillon Francis, Dmitri Vegas & Like Mike, MOTi, Firebeatz, Sander Van Doorn and many more. He has a lot of work in the pipeline along with singer song-writer Ed Sheeran and David Guetta too. He is also seen advising upcoming artists, some of them much older than him, trying to make it, on the do’s and don’t’s of making it in the industry.

2015 has been keeping the boy busy with major production duties. Martin Garrix has played only one show this year and is busy building up, what we can only speculate is a plethora of unreleased new music that he plans to unleash on the crowd at Ultra. There are atleast 5 new tracks being anticipated including the one where Martin, through Instagram dropped hints at the collaboration with Usher with the caption ‘Don’t Look Down’.

He released the track , ‘Forbidden Voices‘ on reaching 10 million likes on Facebook. The music video that accompanied the track is the perfect way to summarise the 10 year old boy’s journey to the 18 year old superstar. Check it out now and brace yourself for what’s coming up at his set at Ultra.
