After attracting obscene amount of coverage in the past few months, these two artists and their latest venture needs no introduction. Having performed together for the first time at Ultra Music Festival in 2014, the mega duo comprising of Diplo and Skrillex has created enough excitement and has got everyone craving for their debut album. Wait no more guys. ‘Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü’ has finally hit the shelves leaving it upto us to decide if the wait was worth all the hype after all.

In case you aren’t a huge fan of small skits that kicked off  many of the rap songs of the 90’s, ‘Dont Do Drugs Just Take Some Jack Ü’ might be a bummer. With unclear vocals and a slow bassline,  this track might not have been the best choice to pump up the atmosphere and most definitely seems like a wrong step forward for ‘Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü’. With this album being a great exhibit of Jack Ü’s collaborative efforts, ‘Beats Knockin’ featuring Fly Boi Keno takes the stage up next. Showing off Diplo’s signature production style, this track is sure to spice things up. Dominated by  Fly Boi Keno’s rough yet powerful vocals alongside a thumping bassline, this energy booster sets everything right in the Jack Ü world once again. Next up is ‘Take Ü There’ disguised in Keisza’s melodious vocals. Being Diplo and Skrillex’s first project as a team, almost everyone is familiar with this track. With a beginning which is good enough to give you the chills, this track is rather deceiving as it soon translates into plenty of ground breaking drops. Not that we are complaining!

Jack Ü’s collaboration with 2 Chainz follows next. An ‘obligatory’ badass track, ‘Febreze’ strings together hip-hop and electro genre with lyrics that are bound to get you to party ‘thug’ style. Don’t mistake ‘To Ü’ with a chilled and smooth track as this follow up spectacle of Diplo and Skrillex’s production abilities is much bigger than your imagination. Definitely the winning factor for this album, this track not only highlights Aluna George’s dreamy vocals but is characterised by best array of drum progressions and the trippiest drops ever heard. ‘Jungle Bae’ featuring Bunji Garlin passes off as a festival favourite. With the vocals giving a Caribbean twist to Skrillex’s mixing abilities and a drop which screams of Diplo’s skills, this track fits perfectly into the category of  ‘dance floor requisite’. The next track is sure to skyrocket your excitement level as Skrillex himself provides the vocals to ‘Mind’ alongside Canadian vocalist, Kai. With a hard hitting bassline accentuating Kai’s strong vocals which in turn juxtapose Skrillex’s contribution to the hook of the track rather wonderfully infused with Diplo’s magical touch, ‘Mind‘ is truly one of a kind.

‘Holla Out’ featuring Snails & Taranchyla highlights upcoming talent in bass music. With vocals being given by Taranchyla, the all too familiar sounds are given a new outlook. With a rough approach to an otherwise upbeat bassline which soon collapses into a hardcore banging drop, this song is exciting and fresh. The next track is again something many of us might be familiar with. With the image of ‘good-boy-turned-bad’, Justin Bieber makes a come back with Jack Ü in their production, ‘Where Are Ü Now’. With Bieber’s bitter sweet vocals featured alongside brilliant display of instrumental work by these two DJs, the track surfaces as rather pleasant and unique and is definite game changer. Lastly, hear Missy Elliot show off her version of ‘Take Ü There’. Because of such huge names coming together, this project gained insane amount of attention in its early stage taking everyone’s expectation to the next level however, this rework may be displaying Missy Elliot’s headstrong vocals but only to be twisted around the original production leaving every listener slightly disappointed but satisfied by the album overall.

It would be hard to deny that this album had a lot riding on it. Coming as a joint effort from two of the biggest names in the music industry as of now, ‘Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü’ promises 10 tracks filled with energy and undeniable fun. A massive hit overall, this album proves that Jack Ü was not just some experiment and might be one of the biggest gifts to the EDM industry in the near future. Get the album on iTunes, now!
