Don’t panic. Listen to Dannic! One of the rapidly emerging producers from the Netherlands, Dannic has seen his stock rise meteorically in these last two years. Having received support from the likes of Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Tiesto, Avicii, Fedde le Grand amongst others, Dannic is one of the hottest young producers in the dance music industry right now.

Born in Breda, Netherlands as Daan Romer, Dannic won the Dancetour DJ contest in 2009 and a slot playing his productions to an audience of 10,000 people. Starting out as a DJ, it was only sometime later that he got into producing. Says Dannic “It’s funny because a lot of people know me as a producer but I like to see myself as a DJ who started producing”.
His first track, Doster, was released on Revealed Recordings and received heavy support from Hardwell and Nicky Romero. His next big breakthrough was his collaboration with Hardwell, Kontiki in 2012, which was featured in a number of festival summer sets. His continuous perseverance with production saw his next work, Clobber, being released on the iconic Toolroom Rercords, which went on to be supported by the who and who of the dance music industry, with some of the names being Swedish House Mafia, Hardwell, Tiesto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, David Guetta amongst others. He also went on to create a compilation for Toolroom Records in 2013. Never resting on his laurels, Dannic continued with his production, churning out hits like Viper, Rocker, Blueprint (in collaboration with Sick Individuals), Lion, Dear Life (in collaboration with Bright Lights), Zenith and more recently Wait For You (in collaboration with Shermanology). Dannic also has never shied away form remixing duties, with remixes for the likes of  R3hab, Nicky Romero & NERVO and Armin van Buuren. His remix of Armin van Buuren’s Intense was chosen by Armin himself to feature on The More Intense edition of the album Intense.

Dannic debuted at no. 74 on last year’s DJ Mag Top 100 poll, and moved up 44 places to land on no. 30 in this year’s Top 100 poll, further cementing his position as the one of the youngest, upcoming superstars in dance music today. A proof of his meteoric rise, Dannic has played at some of the biggest festivals around the world, including Tomorrowland, TomorrowWorld, Creamfields, EDC, Electric Zoo, Ultra Music Festival, Mysteryland amongst others while also supporting Hardwell during his numerous I AM HARDWELL shows around the world, including two in India (Mumbai and Bangalore) last year and the concluding show at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 15th.

We caught up with Dannic at Tomorrowland earlier this year for an interview. Here are some excerpts:

TBB: We’re here with DJ Dannic at Tomorrowland 2014. You’re playing mainstage, how does it feel?

Dannic: Super excited

TBB: Last year you were here as well, you’ve played EDC, you’ve played EZoo, you’ve played the top festivals, what is your take on Tomorrowland?

Dannic:  In my opinion Tomorrowland is the biggest festival there is, worldwide. Because today I’m not just playing for the crowd in front of me, but I’m also playing for ten thousand people even  in India, people watching the live stream or listening to Tomorrowland radio, that adds a lot of pressure to it. But at the same time I’m super excited. I can’t wait to play all my new tracks.

TBB: Talking about your hectic schedule, how do you manage, what do you do that keeps you going for so many events, so many gigs, so many countries, what do you do?

Dannic: It’s funny that you ask that, because yesterday we aired a new web series, called Front of House TV, where actually I give an insight into my tour life and people can actually see how it is. We’re actually recording right now, so you’re going to be famous!

But people always see DJs as number 1 pop stars and whatever, but we’re just regular guys travelling the world, and sometimes it can be really exhausting, there’s always a downside to it. I don’t get to see my family a lot, or my friends a lot, you know. But I’m not complaining at all of course, Its what I love to do. There is a downside to it as well.

TBB:  That sounds great! Well this year is going to be big for you because last year you featured on DJ Mag top 100, debuted at number 74. What does it feel like to be on that list, and what is the future in terms of DJ Mag and yourself?

Dannic: The list shows you that you have really dedicated fans because at the time that i entered the list I didn’t have that many likes on Facebook or Twitter followers, so that means a lot. Of course, touring in India helped a lot! They were great parties, definitely one of the best parties I had last year, was in India. But besides that the DJ Mag is like appreciation for all the work you’ve done, and I just hope that I go up a few spots this year.

I don’t like to ask for votes, because I personally believe that your music has to speak to you. I do it for the people and if i put a smile on someone’s face because of my music that’s what I do it for, and not for getting higher in the DJ Mag.

TBB: Talking about your music, what can we expect next?

Dannic: A lot, I’m really happy. The touring schedule was really tough, because I love producing in my own studio at home. But now I have to get used to producing on the road more and more. But I succeeded, I make sketches and demos and finish it at home when I can. So now I have Zenith coming up, which is a new track that Hardwell premiered at Ultra. Then I have a new festival track which I can’t tell you about, but I’ll premier it tonight. And I’ll premier the follow up to Dear Life, which is a track with Shermanology.  They’ve done an amazing job on the vocals. Of course we’ve got Dear Life remixes by Bassjackers and Lucky Date, so a lot of stuff coming.

TBB:  So talking about revealed, you’ve always been an integral part of revealed, but you also moved to Toolroom last year and did a mix for them, and we spoke about it. How was that for you and what about other labels?

Dannic: That s great actually because I have the freedom to move wherever I want to release music. I’m not signed to Revealed as some people would think. When I met Robert (Hardwell) 10 years ago, before all the success, before Revealed was born, and we have a really good relationship. I send him everything I make, whenever he wants to sign it he signs it. For Clobber there was a different story, because I send it out to Fedde Le Grande as he’s one of my biggest idols, and he sent it out to Mark Knight, who is the owner of Toolroom, and he wanted to sign it immediately and to me, Toolroom, when I was playing, back in the days, that was the biggest label. So that was a huge honour for me, that’s why I discussed it with Robert and he was like, just go ahead, whatever is good for you do it. I think it fitted more to the Toolroom sound. It was more groovy, still progressive and same for Bring the Funk, and I did an album compilation as well for Toolroom as well.  It was like a big dream come true for me.
