Major Lazer present new mix ahead of their India tour

For the uneducated, Major Lazer is an electronic music project created by American producer Diplo. Formerly a collaboration with English producer Switch, that partnership ended in late 2011, following which Diplo enlisted the likes of Jillionaire and Walshy Fire to help with the production and live shows. Major Lazer’s music has always spun across innumberable genres, fusing reggae, electronic music, moombahton and dancehall to create an eclectic atmosphere all around.

Having released countless singles, remixes and EP’s, their full length albums are highly noteworthy. With two notably recognized albums Guns Don’t Kill People..Lazers Do (2009) and Free The Universe (2013), Major Lazer have seen a variety of featuring artists ranging from unheard of talent as well as huge industry names such as Pharrell Williams, Sean Paul, and more recently, Ariana Grande.

Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do, was recorded in Jamaica when Diplo and Switch were running the show. With a ton of guest vocals, this is was the first release to come out of the relationship between Downtown Records (who released the album) and Diplo’s own imprint Mad Decent. After creative differences however, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire stepped into the picture and Free The Universe was soon released a few months after.

Known for their brilliant live shows, Major Lazer pays incredible importance to the quality of its performances. More recently, the Mad Decent Block Parties (MDBP) have been gaining steady hype and recognition all over the United States. With Diplo’s fantastic production skills and the overall humorous fun loving persona maintained throughout, Major Lazer has emerged as one of the most likeable acts in the industry. This however does not take any credit away from their super musical orientation, and futuristic musical tendencies that set them completely apart from the rest of the pack.

In light of their recently announced India tour, courtesy the good folks at Oji and VH1 Supersonic, they’ve also released a mini mix to set a little Chutney Hype! Infusing and mashing it all up, y’all ought to check this out.
