London based Sam Young better known to the Dance Music universe as the path-breaking Vanilla Ace has certainly made a name for himself with his unique production ethos. Known for his unusual merger of unique sound styles from the realms of House, Disco, Future Funk & the 80’s New Jack Swing sound, Vanilla Ace has established himself as the harbinger of creativity and the leader of the Gangster House squad! A genre – with very few DJs for its taking, mind you – that borders on the lines of deep hypnotic vibes, whilst simultaneously infusing dark and delirious basslines with a hint of soul and funk, straight from the golden years of disco! Vanilla Ace is soon to grace us, ahead of his much-awaited India Tour as part of the sLick! Turns 3‘ celebrations, but before you witness the magic, we thought we should give you a lowdown on who and what Vanilla Ace can do!

Long-vanilla

Having exploded on to the scene in 2012 with releases for Toolroom, MODA, Blockhead, Maquina and Ministry of SoundVanilla Ace became a household name with his phenomenal ‘Musicology‘ EP on Andre Crom’s OFF recordings which many considered the pinnacle of his success. However, with one Ace up his sleeve after another, the sparkling producer won high acclaim from the Underground Elite including but not limited to the likes of The Magician, Soulclap and Seth Troxler to name a few! After that a string of releases including a joint EP with Sharam Jay and remixes for Basement Jaxx, S’Express and Nora En Pure , Vanilla Ace continually pushed his envelope for excellence!

The journey for this visionary producer began when he would be dancing to 80?s soul and funk at school discos and watching artists like Cameo, Michael Jackson, Kool and The Gang on Top of the Pops, electronic synth pop champions Eurythmics & Gary Numan. Amongst his earliest influences included Inner City, S’Express, Snap, and of course Daft Punk. With a vast spectrum of influences and inspirations to choose from, it’s clear that his musical style has been hard to pin down with specifics. With each production offering something different, he is able to dominate any dancefloor with his arsenal of solos and remixes.
