DJ Matthew Dear follows the philosophy that ‘Electronic music is the future‘. And the skilled DJ & Producer does a marvelous job at showing his proficiency at some super studio engineering coupled with his own penchant for innovation & creativity, when he decided to produce a track made completely out of samples from GE Machines. GE – or as every consumer on the planet knows them as, General Electric – employs the phenomenal talents of Dear as a marketing campaign, that not only shows the company’s variety of products & global reach, but also the limitless range of creation an Electronica track can contain!
Every machine has its own acoustic signature – a precise frequency that indicates whether that machine is operating at peak performance. GE engineers monitor and record these sounds to perform real-time diagnostics on airplane engines, locomotives, power turbines, and medical equipment. Musician Matthew Dear and GE Acoustics Engineer Andrew Gorton teamed up to collect and compose thousands of audio emissions from the world’s most powerful machines. The result is an original track of music titled “Drop Science.”
While the video shows Engineers & technicians describing an all too familiar romanticized relationship with electronics, Matthew Dear‘s process of bringing this absolutely unique piece of music to life is what’s spell-binding. Certainly a lesson to be learnt, as Dear breaks away from the monotocity from club sounds, in to creating a sound of sheer genius. Check out the video below which explains the documentary, but do check out the track itself!
