WAGs: The DJ Edition!

In front of every successful DJ is a five-digit strong crowd, a record deal waiting to be inked, and a state-of-the-art play toy console. But behind every successful DJ, as is with every successful man, is a woman. The better halves of producers are no strangers to the spotlight, having sashayed into the fashion, modeling and music worlds, while masterfully juggling being moms to some extremely genetically blessed children. These women have stolen the hearts of the men whose music has stolen ours, and have undoubtedly been the protagonists of the stories behind some of their most inspired creations. With the world cup reaching fever pitch, The Bangin Beats releases WAGs: the DJ edition – the wives, girlfriends and exes that are every bit as impressive, crush-worthy and enviable as their female football counterparts.

1. Doutzen Kroes

Irina who? At 29, the Victoria’s Secret angel has waved her wand over some of the most enviable industries known to woman. Having graced magazine covers that range from TIME to Vogue, the aspiring actress literally gets paid to showcase Tiffany’s diamonds. Personifying the lingerie brand’s ‘Hello Bombshell!’ catchphrase, with natural looks evocative of a Dutch Grace Kelly, featuring Kroes on our list was a no-brainer. Her angel duties also include being an ambassador for Dance4Life (along with a little known DJ called Tiësto), a non-profit organization which aims to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS through dance music. Currently pregnant with her second child (it’s a girl!), Kroes probably looks just as fabulous as she did when she met Sunnery James. We’ll venture out to say that she’s even more popular than her husband – but we’ll give him credit for marrying a supermodel and humbling every notorious modelizer in the entertainment industry.

2. Isabel Adrian

Author, Actress, Creative Director & Designer, Mrs. Steve Angello is a brand in herself. We’d also add super gorgeous mom who’s passed on her modeling genes to two adorable girls to her curriculum vitae if we could. Another mistress of trades, Adrian is the successful owner of a clothing and jewellery line as well as stylist to the stars – including her husband, the creative director of fashion brand of EN|NOIR himself. Under the auspices of Size Records’ eponymous foundation, the stylish power couple has funded youth empowerment and education projects, including an orphanage in Rishikesh. The usually strong and silent Angello is clearly smitten, with a caricature of his wife tattooed on his forearm and a grin plastered across his face during their living-room waltzes. What’s even cuter, the James’ and the Angellos give new meaning to the term ‘EDM family’ – their kids have playdates while their dads casually work on producing Size hits.

3. Ida Engberg

Ain’t no romance like an EDM romance. They say that the couple that raves together, stays together, and Ida Engberg and Adam Beyer epitomize just that. Before they said ‘I do’, the crown prince and princess of techno were bound by another sacred union, Drumcode Records, his label that she was signed to. One of the finest female DJs there is, she flows from big room techno to deep house sets with ease, even having played some back2back sets with the hubby. Despite her third bun in the oven, she’s been effortlessly tearing up the underground scene in Ibiza this summer and is en route to play Tomorrowland later this month. The only person luckier than the mega talented, smoking hot Swedish goddess… is the guy who got to marry her.

4. Gina Turner

Another match made in electronic music heaven, Laidback Luke announced that he was engaged to the house DJ during the maiden voyage of Holy Ship!. With the most vibrant of feathers in her cap, from a former radio personality to the head of Turn It Records, DJ Gina Turner’s genres of choice include house, techno, and yoga – she’s a certified ashtanga yoga instructor. Aboard the Holy Ship!, she’s mixed sunrise sets and workout playlists as well and conducted fitness sessions for fans. She’s even attended yoga classes with Major Lazer and Diplo – as well as collaborated with the latter, Steve Aoki, and Chromeo, among others on tracks. The couple added another superheroine to their brigade this March, when LL suddenly departed from UMF for the birth of their baby girl.

5. Natasha Garcez

With the samba nation all the rage this season, the Brazilian modeling fraternity has proven that it has more to boast than just Gisele Bündchen. Natasha Garcez is no exception to the trend, and Tocadisco put a ring on the incredibly sexy Brazilian model back in 2008. Today, she’s his worldwide manager and undeniably his muse, as well as a budding tech house DJ herself. In a romantically feminist turn of events, he changed his name to Roman Böer de Garcez post their nupitals. The model-DJ match is an irresistible one, and we’re noticing a pattern here, that mini Axwell, Leon, seems to have caught onto.

6. Ellie Goulding

The British songbird, Ellie Goulding, has an enviable reputation as a DJizer, having dated two of the most iconic men in dance music, Skrillex and Calvin Harris. Though the relationships are technically over, she warrants a special mention on our list for the timeless masterpieces she’s created with both, especially those with Skrill. Neither the Grammy winner nor his nominee ex need an introduction, and neither does their music. Not only were they adorably quirky together, but Goulding’s croon was perfectly suited to those skillfully Skrillex-ian vocal chops. Goulding gave us a magical throwback and a taste of her killer DJing chops earlier this year when she opened her Annie Mac guest mix with an unreleased track titled ‘Because’, which showcased how good they were together. Given that they created this beauty in a hotel room, one can only imagine the wonders they have left to make in the studio.

Not all the girlfriends of DJ have reached the status of missus, and there have definitely been some misses (see: Paris Hilton). The bottom line is – don’t lose hope, there are plenty of bachelor and bachelorette producers on the market.
