A mainstay of American television culture for almost 40 years now, Saturday Night Live is one hilarious comedy sketch show that always pokes fun at all pop culture trends that take the United States by storm.

It’s well known that a spot hosting or performing or even a mere mention on the show could make or break an artist/actor’s career. One of their most recent episodes featured The Amazing Spider Man star Andrew Garfield as host.

During one of their famous sketches that pokes fun at wholesome American family game shows, one of the artists spoofed was dubstep royalty, Skrillex. During the sketch, the host refers to the DJ as “Skrikkets” prompting the Skrillex character to explain who he is, after which the host refers to his contract not mentioning anything about dealing with “Spooky Ghosts.” Other “celebrities” included in the skit include Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Shakira.

Brief as the reference may be, this is a perfect example for dance music culture and its sweeping hold on the mainstream media.  Especially after contestants on popular American Dance Show, Dancing With The Stars, performed to Martin Garrix’s Animals.

Check out the hilarious sketch below.
