Mumbai and India got a taste of some of the finest Tech and Deep house sounds to come out of the Catalan underground scene, as Suara label founder and Celebrated Spanish producer and DJ, Ivan Ramos better knows as Coyu visited our shores this past week. Travelling to 5 cities in India, he kicked off his highly-anticipated tour in the bustling city of Mumbai, at Tilt All Day, amidst some of the happiest and tech-friendly audiences Mumbai can ever produce. The night, which began through the eclectic techno selection from Indian Dance music Queen Pearl, turned upon its head and into a melodic haven of beautiful grooves and tunes as Coyu rubbed his hands behind the console to create sheer magic!
Despite falling in the mid-week, the night saw a score of people, adorned with smiles and with halos resulting from the euphoric collection bestowed by the performing DJs. There had been much anticipation about Coyu‘s performance during the day, as social media was abuzz at the prospects of watching the Spanish sensation perform in their city for the first time. The DJ and producer has made his mark in the Dance music scene through his hard work with the Suara label. Promoting some of the biggest names through Suara, the hard work has paid off for Coyu as the label has seen enormous success over the years, even reaching #1 on both, Beatport and Resident Advisor. His studio skills are simply unparalleled and consistently been at par with the best in the business, as he has seen frequent releases on Cocoon, Get Physical, Noir Music, 100% Pure, Tronic as well his own Suara label. Meanwhile, as a DJ, his sets are a concocted journey of emotions, as he produces unpredictable journeys that may be driving club-friendly or uplifting and euphoric, all depending on the vibe that audiences lend him. Wednesday night, however, was a mix bag, as Coyu laid out all the arsenal with a meticulously crafted set of sonic bliss!
The night kicked off with Indian Electronica Queen Pearl starting off things with her range of tech and underground assortments. Extending her boundaries and horizons with the deeper shades of electronic music, Pearl dished out gems like Maceo Plex‘s ‘Conjure Drama‘ & Jon Rundell‘s ‘Knick Knack‘. The team at Submerge, made some architectural revisions to the club as well, as the usual deck which is perched above the bar, was bought down literally cordoning off the VIP area, in order to create a more intimate clubbing experience. With standalone sound speakers flanking the DJ console, the audience wrapped around Pearl, as she showered some more blissful grooves through the shapes and form of Oliver Huntemann & Dubfire‘s enigmatic ‘Aire‘. Coyu politely awaited his turn behind Pearl, as he grooved along with the audience all the while lending a wide smile and a photograph for eager fans. By quarter to midnight, the Spanish sensation stepped up and was presented by none other than Submerge Director Nikhil Chinapa himself! With both flanking t-shirts with graphics of cats, Nikhil welcomed Ivan onto the decks and thanked Pearl for the phantasmic warm & blissful opening set. It was certainly a fitting warm-up for what was to follow as Coyu put his head down and went straight to work with a harmonic and fresh sound – one Mumbai accepted with open arms and jumping feet!
