He’s the Dutch Jesus, a man standing at the helm of his ship, leading the way for others through previously uncharted waters. Armin van Buuren is a celebrity and a ‘God’ in his own right, and that word is not thrown about recklessly. We’d give you his biography, but the truth is that you all know everything about him, unless you know, you live under a rock.

If you love trance, dance, anything with synths, it’s guaranteed you started by listening to this man. The 5 time winner of the prestigious (and controversial) title of DJ MAG #1, he’s coming back to a city near you, and we’re here to give you the low down on anything and everything you might not know about the man of the hour.

1. He has his very own WII game – the only DJ to have one.

In Armin’s words, “I’ve been a huge games freak for years and I am, of course, a music fanatic. Music mixing technology has improved enormously over the past few years. 2. He studied law in his youth and on his ‘ASOT Year Mix’, he begins with a court room oath – perhaps a shootout to his law roots?

4. He only drinks water and eats fruits during all his shows.

Now this is certainly heartening to read, considering all the performers who prefer something a little..er..stronger.

5. The moment when the monarch of trance and the monarchs of the Netherlands danced on stage.

In May last year, Armin had the unique privilege of performing for the Queen and King of the Netherlands, along with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and it truly was magical.

6. He spent all the money he earned on paper routes on records, and first started making music when he was 14 years old, on this thing:

7. His 2008 studio album, ‘Imagine’, entered the Dutch album charts at #1, a first for a dance music artist in Dutch music history.

8. Early last year, he wrote an article for the Huffington Post. It is beautiful and worth the 5 minutes it takes to read.
