Are you a fan of Dubstep/ D&B / Electro / Trap? Have you heard songs over at a friend’s house or on the radio and wondered, ‘hmmm..wouldn’t a trap version of this sound great..?’ And then you spent hours searching for that elusive remix that may or may not even exist! Well, search no more! Peter Sobot of Appstruments has come with a unique application that may simply allow you to build a remix of your own!

The Wub Machine is an application built around a sort of MixedinKey-like add on to your DJ setup, that analyzes a song’s BPM and key and then chops the track up to fit a predetermined beat made by the Wub engineers. The results may be extremely academical and far from the likes of chart topping and record breaking productions, but the exercise is nothing short of a fun experimental exercise if nothing, which may tingle your dance buds with prospects of what your favorite tracks may actually sound like on a quivering tempo! Here’s what Peter had to say about the experiment.

“Four months ago, I released the Wub Machine, an online Dubstep remixing web app. It hit Reddit for a couple days, got popular on 4chan, and has since remixed nearly 24,000 songs…..Since then, I’ve polished up a completely new framework for the Wub Machine – nearly everything about the site has been rewritten since its first release. The first version was held together with duct tape, PHP and prayers, which resulted in some catastrophic failures when the site was initially launched. I’ve sinced rebuilt it in 100% Python, load tested, and added features.

So, what’s next for the Wub Machine? I’m not sure. I still consider the algorithm a bit of a hack, although it sounds distinctive and kinda cool now. I’m planning a YouTube remixer, but that’s technically challenging. There are some small technical problems I can try to fix as well, and I can continue to improve the code base and open source the changes. And of course, I need to keep it running.”
