Michelle Knights first NYE in 11 years with Krewella

Ariel Castro is a name met with a fair bit of disgust and horror. It is a name that reminds us exactly how despicable the world can be in our most unguarded moments. On New Years Eve, Krewella melted some of the Cleveland snow and inveigled themselves into our hearts by drawing attention to one woman’s bravery in the face of a decade worth of abuse.

At the “Cleveland Rocks” celebration hosted by Drew Carey, Krewella invited Michelle Knight onto stage to bring in the new year with them and tried to erase the trauma of missing any opportunities of celebrations over the last 11 years.

 

“Michelle Knight, Jahan and I on stage last night in the middle of a snow storm in down town Cleveland. This was Michelle’s first NYE following her ten year long kidnapping ordeal at the hands of Ariel Castro. Our whole team was blown away by her abundance of friendliness, poise and confidence considering the unimaginable horrors she endured over the last decade. She is truly a role model human being, a beacon of resilience who exemplifies the most amazing qualities that we as people strive for. Looking forward to 2014, I think all of us would to well to learn a little something from Michelle’s example and hopefully that will reflect positively in our own lives. That’s what the New Year and music is all about – celebrating the strength of people and bring them together. Say whatever you will about artists, there are some who truly give till it hurts. Here’s to keeping us all warm and fuzzy during the bitter cold, Krewella – and a Happy New Year!
