One of London’s premier nightclubs and an iconic monuments, in terms of the global partying movement, the Ministry Of Sound, has had it’s future secure by the intervention of London Mayor Boris Johnson.

The city was looking to build a 41 story apartment building just 30 feet away from the club’s doorstep. The concern was that the music from the club would provoke too many complaints from tenants and the iconic club would have to shut its doors, but under the new deal the lease for each flat will include a reference to the location of the club.

This scheme will deliver much-needed housing in Elephant & Castle while ensuring that the Ministry of Sound, one of London’s leading cultural and musical icons, can continue to thrive for years to come,’ Mr Johnson said.

In a message on its website, the nightclub, which opened in 1991, said:

That’s all we ever wanted in the first place – and finally that’s what we’ve achieved. It’s taken five long years, but we vowed to keep fighting until we’d secured our future. It was that simple.

‘We couldn’t have done it without you – the hundreds of thousands from all over the world who joined the battle to save our club. You helped us to persuade Boris to do the right thing. We cannot thank you enough for your encouragement, goodwill and support. Together we’ve ensured the music at Ministry [sic] never stops.’
