It seems not all is at peace in the land of Avicii, or so it seems. Having garnered some miscued attention over the release of his latest album True, Avicii has been giving fewer and fewer interviews off late. Recently though, he’s decided to open up to The Guardian, about the current state of dance music and more. From Avicii’s words, it definitely looks like he’s disappointed with the current state of dance music as a whole. Hit past the break to know more!“Originality is definitely missing from EDM. There are people looking for it and exploring but I feel it’s so big now it is just getting milked. House music is losing all its melody as it becomes more about how dirty the drop is and how energetic it is. It loses touch with what music really is. It’s gotten to a point where everything sounds the same. There is no longevity in what’s happening at the moment.”
He then launched into a brazen outburst at how the issue of big bucks is driving the industry today. Tim Bergling scoffed at the comparison of Vegas to Ibiza, and how Americans consider the Sin City as their equivalent of Ibiza. He mentioned,
“Americans call it their version of Ibiza but it’s not. People go for a week and then leave. It’s a huge money-making machine. Everything is massive and expensive, there’s just so much money there. You can really feel it. Ibiza is about a passion for music, Vegas doesn’t feel real. It’s a product.”
Definitely adding some more truth following his True album release (no pun intended), at the end of the day, it’s all about the music. You can check out the entire article via The Guardian here.
