Curtis Jones may go by many aliases such as Cajmere, Gino Vittori and Geo Vogt but we think he’s best known under the moniker of Green Velvet. To thrill us all, this Chi-town boy has hit us up with his latest EP titled Bigger Than Prince. A three track EP, it consists of the original, and a couple of cleverly selected remixes by Circus Recordings friends Hot Since 82 and The Martinez Brothers. Hit past the break to learn more!
Starting off with the original, this track can simply be described as sexy, low-slung house. Suave yet raw, this tune is suitably slow, but steadily builds up with an industrial edge to it. Percussively speaking, this production is magnificent, and Green Velvet provides his own voice sample ‘Walk around like you’re bigger than Prince‘ to this jagged funk-driven tune, that’s sporting some serious bass.
The first remix is that of Hot Since 82. Known for some of the neatest tech-house in the industry, this Leeds producer produces a remix that’s packed with punchy basslines and bouncy synths. Usually adopting a minimalistic approach, he’s managed to create controlled dance floor chaos with with a polished tech-house groovy beat.
Last but by no means the least, the Martinez Brothers approach the original with a more hypnotic vibe. Set at a higher tempo, they induct a clever percussive vibe, and their creativity with the use of the original vocals, combined with echoing whispers spells no bounds. We think it’s an outstanding stab at a remix
Overall, this is a massive EP, and if you’re a tech-house junkie, this EP shall satisfy your innate desires. It’s hard to choose our favourite version, each one is uniquely amazing in its own way. A debut EP under Circus Recordings, you can grab your copy here, and don’t forget to check it out below!
