So we’ve heard how talented Andrew Bayer really is when he released “Need Your Love” as part of his album If It Were You, We’d Never Leave. We even got to witness Phonat‘s incomparable brilliance on his rendition of it (Check out the Phonat Remix here) But honestly, what had us holding on to our panties was when Mr. Bayer had announced that he’d be doing a club mix of it and it was to premiere on ABGT #39.
Bangin Beats HQ does have a handful of die-hard, man crushing, Andrew Bayer fans. We really couldn’t wait for to hear it. What we really wanted to see is how Andrew Bayer’s ingenuity and versatility would manifest itself this time, especially since he had to produce a club-friendly, dance-worthy remix of a record that was primarily down-tempo, trip-hoppish and had hints of a glitch vibe. We knew he just wouldn’t speed it up and add the run-of-the-mill synth sounds as do most producers today when they’ve got to remix a slower record. No no, we are very well acquainted with Andrew Bayer’s style and we must say, we had high expectations.
But what came out of it, well. It was just beautiful. Of course, to be honest, not as polished as the Andrew Bayer we’re used to. But, that’s probably only because we’ve been spoiled with his previous work. And also because we’re probably biased. However, if you look at it from the point of view as him keeping pace with the current trend in popular club sounds, it’s a very evident cut above what’s usually doing the rounds on the tracklists for most DJs today.
Starting off with a regular 4/4 beat and a heavy synth horn type sub-bass, sampling the original’s vocals in the background, it set’s the mood for a very bouncy record. Till it breaks to a fading dream-like synth bridge, much like the original, with the original’s piano scale being played. It then picks up with a piano chord progression that most say sound akin to Swedish House Mafia’s Leave The World Behind. (Note: The ‘Leave The World Behind’ piano sample is borrowed from Julian Jabre’s ‘Swimming Places‘ , a favorite of the Swedish trio. ‘Need Your Love‘ sounds a bit familiar but its far from a rip off from SHM.) The build up here is what really get’s you into the whole vibe. Andrew Bayer has this unique way of nestling you to the pinnacle of his record and then just letting you loose. The drop is what got us all dancing in our seats.
This wonderful club tune is set for an August 19th release via Anjunabeats along with England (Andrew Bayer’s contribution to Anjunabeats 10) and Detuned (The ultra, ultra grimey dub/glitch tune he opened his TATW 450 set with)
We can’t wait. Till then check out the preview here.
