(S)haan (born as Shaan Singh, 18 June 1995 in Mumbai, India) is the youngest DJ ever to play at an international music festival. At age 15, he debuted at Asia’s largest music festival – Sunburn 2010, in Goa, India. He is the new kid on the Electronic Dance scene and has played to many packed house across India and in London.
In only his first year of playing, (S)haan quickly jumped from opening sets for Funk Agenda and Helium Project, to playing with Lost Stories and Pearl. The end of 2011 found him touring with Miss Nine and DJ Mag, World Ranked #8 DJ, Avicii on the Sunburn Pre-Party Tour. (S)haan’s daytime progressive house set attracted thousands of Sunburners, and was unofficially ranked one of the top five favorite sets of the festival. Upon learning that he was only 16 years old, (S)haan’s fans reveled in the fact that there was a long, rocking road ahead for this young talent.
Also in 2011, (S)haan’s energetic progressive beats and his silky smooth transitions landed him an invitation to play in London for a public awareness concert for Global Truce, and for an exclusive, premier gig on a private yacht on Temple Pier, overlooking the London Eye and Houses of Parliament.
With killer instincts and sharp intuition due to his undying love for electronic dance music, (S)haan knows what his crowds want. His freshness leads to innovation and experimentation. His music is expansive and uplifting, leaving festival goers all over the world elevated, and wanting more. Definitely a talent to watch out for, keep an eye out for (S)haan.
We at The Bangin Beats got a chance to interview the young talent and get to know more about him ahead of his ‘Birthday Gig’ at Blue Frog, Mumbai on 15th June 2013.

TBB: 18 is a turning point in a young adults life, what does it mean to you? Does turning 18 open new doors for you?
Shaan: Well, honestly It does not mean that much too me, It’s just that I can drive now! I don’t drink or smoke so there is not much to 18 for me, I’m quite happy with 17 and I don’t think 18 is going to change a lot apart from driving and doing some passport work! ;)
TBB: When you were 15 you were the youngest DJ to play at an electronic music festival; are there any moments or memories that you’d like to credit to the start of this journey?
Shaan: I feel like the moment I saw the denon 4500, I was quite interested in what all these buttons do, so I played around and I felt like that started everything off. Till date playing my first gig was the best but hardest day of my life!
TBB: Your father Mr Shailendra Singh told us at the age of 12 you decided to take music up more seriously. Now you’re 18, 6 years ever since! Where do you see yourself when you’re 24?
Shaan: Well I see myself making more music and playing more out of India that is my main goal at this moment.
TBB: How much of an effort did you have to put in to reach where you are at such a young age, whilst studying at the same time?
Shaan: People might not think this but it took me a lot of effort, there is a lot to learn and I wanted to learn it fast! Also I did not want anyone to teach me I wanted to learn everything on my own and that added more effort in. I had to dedicate time to school work and music each day but music always took more of my day than school work.
TBB: Dance music has grown tremendously in India over the last few years, who would you like to work with from the Indian fraternity in the future?
Shaan: Rishabh Joshi, Anish Sood them two are the main people I would love to work with in the industry.
TBB: Which DJs/producers have inspired you and inspire you right now?
Shaan: Believe it or not Aly and Fila are my biggest inspiration now, the way they produce is just amazing the vast amounts of sounds they use are just wow.
TBB: You must be totally enjoying your young female fan following, have they done anything crazy for you at a gig?
Shaan: Nothing that I have noticed…..haha
TBB: What would you choose, collaborating with Madeon or have one of the members of Swedish House Mafia produce a track of yours?
Shaan: Well I would choose to work with Madeon I just love his sound, I like sebs, steves and axwell’s sound but I feel like Madeon is young too and he has so much talent so it would be amazing if I could work with him.
TBB: We know you are a huge Manchester United fan. Would you cancel a gig if on that particular day you got a chance to meet the team at Old Trafford?
Shaan: I’ve been a childhood man united fan and I die hard one too, the back room of my wall is the united flag the whole wall is painted red white and black so, yes I would!
TBB: You have 5 tracks in the making, when do we get to hear and feature them on thebanginbeats.com?
Shaan: One is already out on soundcloud up for free download the other one is finished, will be adding some vocals over the top and then it will be out too, the next 3 out this monsoon.
TBB: Tell us about the 3 tracks that you’ve completed and how they came about? Your favourite amongst the lot?
Shaan: Lets say the new one that is coming I have completed two, one is out there one is not yet but the one that is in the making is my favourite right now.
TBB: What would you like to say to aspiring DJs still in their teens?
Shaan: Keep learning something new, and mainly don’t give up…simply be smart!
