The International Music Summit (IMS) has announced that this year’s IMS Anthem will be created by none other than, Nile Rodgers. Read ahead to know more about the legend and how one of the best current producers Eats Everything came about to be doing the official remix of the anthem!
A keynote speaker in 2012, Nile returns this year to lend his talents to the IMS anthem. The Chic guitarist, who is famed for his unique basslines and songwriting skills, is the perfect candidate to record the track – not only because of his history but also due to his recent involvement with electronic music, most notably the new Daft Punk album, “Random Access Memories“ which he exclusively told the IMS about at his keynote speech last year. The first single ‘Get Lucky’ has been no.1 in the UK charts for the past 3 weeks.
Nile’s production credits read like a who’s who of the greatest pop stars in history, from Madonna to David Bowie, Duran Duran and Mick Jagger to name but a few. To say it’s an honour to have him write our 2013 anthem is an understatement. Speaking about the anthem project, he said:
“I am so excited to be creating the IMS Anthem 2013. I had such an inspirational time at IMS last year and its opened up many new connections including collaborations with many contemporary electronic artists. I’ve created this new track with Ibiza and the electronic community in mind before handing over to one of my favourite remixers of today – Eats Everything. I can’t wait to hear what he does with it, and to hear it at Dalt Vila in Ibiza! Historic site for historic music productions”.
On remix duties the leader of the new school is going to provide a perfect thread from the past to the present and the future – Eats Everything. One of the electronic music scene’s most famous faces, Eats Everything hails from Britain’s West Country and has made his way onto the global stage thanks to his flawless DJ skills and excellent productions.
It was in 2011 when his single ‘Entrance Song’ took the underground scene by storm and launching him into the limelight, after more than a decade of hard work. Now reaping the benefits of all the work he put in before he hit the big time, Eats Everything will no doubt throw down a serious remix of Nile’s anthem and we can’t wait to hear it. The typically straight-talking DJ told us: “It still hasn’t quite sunk in that I am remixing Nile Rodgers, it’s ridiculous!!! I am so excited though and can’t wait to get stuck in!”
Every year IMS commissions two very special artists to conceive and remix its anthem, all within a very limited timeframe. The producer and remixer of the anthem have the same allotted time on Thursday 23rdMay and it will then be played at the IMS Finale, which takes place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site -Dalt Vila and will feature appearances from Maya Jane Coles, Sven Vath, Tensnake, Solomun and more. Previous contributors to the IMS anthem include Cassius – whose anthem ‘I Love You So’, was sampled on the track ‘Why I Love You’ on Jay-Z and Kanye West’s 2011 collaboration album Watch the Throne; Arthur Baker, Tom Middleton, Above & Beyond, Layo & Bushwacka and Sasha.
In six short years, the summit – dubbed “the TED of music conferences” – has firmly established itself as one of the leading global events for a sector worth $4bn (a figure declared by IMS in its annual IMS Business Report last year). Its importance this year is paramount as electronic music comes of age, and the biggest players in the business are being drawn into the genre. This year’s event promises to be even bigger, the calibre of the artists creating the IMS anthem alone is a testament to that.
