John ’00’ Fleming, is a name clearly synonymous with Electronic Dance Music, since probably its inception. One of the pioneers of the genre, Mr. Fleming was always a big name on the UK underground music circuit.
So naturally, we were super stoked when we heard that Submerge was bringing him to India, as part of his “One.Hundred.Ten WKO” Album release tour at the Blue Frog, his favourite place to play in India. This was Mr. Fleming’s personal message to all his fans.
“The Submerge crew will know that I’m forever requesting to come back to the blueFROG, it’s my favourite venue . Each and every time I’ve played there I’ve had a blast, and I can’t wait to be coming back. I know in India you have a habit of coming out late, for this one make the effort to come early I can then play a longer set and we can party for longer together!”
Not wanting to disobey Mr. Fleming’s orders, we arrived at the venue at an early hour, just so we could be awed by this dance-music genius.
Starting off with a very tech-ish vibe, Mr. Fleming definitely had us eagerly in anticipation for his heavier stuff which was certainly a very astounding way of prepping the audience for what’s in store for later.
As the night progressed, not only did the track-list get heavier and darker, but the bass-lines got more pounding, which resulted in a gathering of more trance hungry people on the dance-floor, like a pack of starved lions circling on their prey. Starting the night off with a slower tech trance vibe, he picked up to hard trance, slowly progressing in to Psy Trance. So mastefully done, one wouldn’t have been able to spot the transition.
Each and every time Mr. Fleming takes to decks, he abolishes any doubts a skeptic may have towards his abilities, or his countless years of his experience. He shows the audience how it’s done, exactly like a boss and this night was no different.
Wave after wave, of demolishing trance with stabbing bass-lines, and spine tingling melodies were dished out from the “Double O’s” arsenal. He dropped tracks like:
He also treated us with a preview to some of his tracks from the album, Stuff like “WKO” and “Fires of Chameleon”.
He ended his set with mass favourite Infected Mushroom’s Psy Trance smasher “Becoming Insane”
All in all, it was a wonderful experience, to have one of the greatest minds in trance, in flesh and blood, make us dance to his tunes and lose ourselves to his whims and fancies.
“To me trance music is about being forward thinking, about new sounds and new ideas. It is music straight from the future. This is part of the trance bloodline that I will never forget and always respect.”
It is this very belief by the man himself that was echoed through his set, through the vibe, through the night, and straight to the audience.
