Interview With Getter!

American DJ/Producer Getter has established himself as one of the best rising acts in bass music. Having already put out exceptional records in the past two years, and with his more recent releases with OWSLA doing heavy damage, the young talent is constantly turning heads in the electronic music industry. Also a visionary in the bass game, the man has stayed true to his identity and continues to break further boundaries. On the heels of his latest Radical Dude EP, we recently caught up with the ‘Suh Dude‘ creator himself to discuss his inspirations, new music, and much more. Read on!

TBB: How did your journey in the music industry start? Did you always know you wanted to be a musician or were there other plans as well?

Getter: Yeah as soon as I picked up a guitar I knew I wanted to do music. I have always done art, whether it’s music or drawing, so it all came pretty natural.

TBB: How would you describe Getter’s sound?

Getter: I’d say it’s a bit all over the place and crazy. There’s no one specific sound, which makes it more unique.

TBB: Before OWSLA, you had singles and EPs released on Buygore and Firepower Records. How did your relationship with Skrillex come about?

Getter: Well I was sending music on an email thread full of other artists, and Skrillex was on the thread. He hit me back saying he liked ‘Head Splitter’ and this old song I did called ‘Haggard’ and the rest is history. He just wanted to hang and listen to music and the next thing I knew I was signed to OWSLA!

TBB: What has been the most memorable moment in your career so far?

Getter: Ultra Music Festival was very surreal for me. I had gone the past few years as a guest and wanted so bad to take the yacht to the festival and have some crazy green room on a boat. So that happening for me this year was definitely pivotal for me.

TBB: Which artists, according to you, have had a big influence on your development as an artist?

Getter: Definitely Skrillex. He’s always giving me advice on what to do with all my music. I make so many different kinds of music and have no idea what to do with it. Him and his label are really great about pointing you in the right direction.

TBB: Over the past year or so, you’ve been experimenting with new sounds. What is the idea behind the new direction towards your music?

Getter: There’s no new direction really, I’m just sort of putting everything out now, instead of holding some of it back. It works out for the better because my fans can see all different kinds of sides to me and my art.

TBB: Are there any dream collaborations which you would like to be a part of?

Getter: I would love to work with Flume. I love his ideas. Also Corbin and Bobby Raps are on my list for sure. The way they work together is magical.

TBB: Shifting away from the music for a sec, how did the viral ‘Suh Dude’ reference came to life which even led to an entire track around the sample?

Getter: Well Nick Colletti and myself have lived together for a few years, and we have our own slang words. ‘Suh dude‘ was one of the phrases we always said and we made a few videos that included it. My new manager I hired posted my videos and vines on Facebook and they blew up. Now it’s haunting me, haha!

TBB: Many of your friends, Skrillex, Dillon Francis, Borgore and more have played in the Indian subcontinent in the past one year. Any plans for an India tour in the near future?

Getter: Man I really hope so! I got a new booking agent now so we’re trying to go everywhere I’ve never been!

TBB: You’ve already had 2 releases on OWSLA in 2016, as well as the viral ‘Suh Dude’ single on Buygore. What are your plans for the rest of the year?

Getter: Ohhhhhhh man, I’ve already finished 2 more EP’s and working on another album 😀 that’s all I can say!
