Kill The Buzz recently played in Delhi for DimensionRED, and we had the chance to catch up with the Dutchman to talk about his friendship with Hardwell, his influences, and much more. Read on!

TBB: You’re returning to Delhi for the first after the I AM Hardwell show with Hardwell last year. How does it feel to be back?

KTB: It feels like a sort of anniversary to come back to Delhi since it’s been almost exactly one year ago that I first came to India with the I Am Hardwell show.

TBB: We all know you’re very good friends with Hardwell. How did this friendship come about?

KTB: It started out almost 10 years ago. At the time I was working as a sales agent for T-Mobile. I used to drive a colleague  of mine to his shows since he was a DJ. One day he said that we  had to go to Amsterdam cause he was playing a student party and me and him would be driving with a friend of his and that there is also another guy coming along.

He introduced himself as Robbert and that night in the Escape in Amsterdam was the first time we got to know each other.

After a couple of months we met again at a Christmas dinner and a couple of weeks later he called me if I wanted to come along to his shows in the Netherlands. We’ve been touring around the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium for about 3 years. At the time I wasn’t even interested in becoming a DJ.
As we got to know each other better during the years, we found out that we had similar interest and even mutual friends and music teachers in the past. We hang out in his studio making and listening to music and that is how our friendship came about.

TBB: How does the rest of 2015 look for you? Any new singles or EP we should be looking forward to?

KTB: I just released a track Dreaming with Ralvero on Revealed Recordings. I’ve been working with the Futuristic Polar Bears for a year now on a collab, Katt Nial and even Thomas Newson during the Revealed Asia Club Tour. Besides that I’ve been working on a couple of solo projects and a remix for Jason Derulo.

I try to be a bit more creative by making vocal / melodic tracks with a poppy twist so that it will be more radio friendly. Of course I’ll always be making club / big-room tracks but I find it interesting these days to work with vocals.

TBB: How would you describe the Kill The Buzz sound?

KTB: Big Room, Groovy and Melodic.

TBB: Can you tell us a little about your creative process in the studio? How do you work on your     productions?

KTB: There’s not a real special thing I do. I always start from scratch with some chords which I think will create a spheric/epic break. After that comes a melody and then I’ll build the drop. If it’s a vocal track I tend to create multiple chord structures and then listen to them repeatedly before choosing one which brings the vocal truly to life with a nice harmony. After that it’s just simple EQ’ing, Compressing, adding Reverbs, etc.

TBB: Which artists do you think have been big influences on your development as an artist?

KTB: I’ve been a fan of Tiesto since I was a young kid. Besides that, artists such as Daft Punk, Earth Wind and Fire, Toto, John Legend, Alicia Keys, have all been an influence of my development as an artist musically.

TBB: You’ve just done a Revealed Records Asia tour with Thomas Newson, Manse, Joey Dale and Julian Calor. How has the experience been?

KTB: It’s been really Great. I connected with Manse and I’ve been knowing Thomas Newson and Joey Dale and Julian Calor for quite some while now. And it was really fun to hang out with those guys for 2 weeks. I’ve been meeting with Thomas and Joey in Holland, drinking beers hanging out at my place and we connected. So to have the opportunity to go from club to club, country to country with these guys was fantastic!

TBB: Given the chance to collaborate with any one artist, who would you collaborate with and why?

KTB: Max Martin, cause he’s phenomenal and Katy Perry so that I can one day propose to her, haha!

TBB: What tips/advice would you give budding producers and DJs?

KTB: Just be yourself, do the thing you wanna do and don’t go for the hypes.

TBB: What are your Top 3 #Bangin tracks at the moment?

KTB:

  1. Ralvero & Kill The Buzz – Dreaming
  2. Joey Dale, Rico & Miella – Winds
  3. Kill The Buzz & Futuristic Polar Bears – Shake it Off
