Paul Oomen, a Dutch opera composer and a disciple of Nikolas Tesla, has invented a new realm in sound with 4DSound, an immersive listening environment which completely redefines how music in experienced. Using 48 speakers, 9 sub-speakers and 57 channels, 4DSound allows artists to utilize all 57 channels through an Ableton setup, enabling them to specifically map sounds to occupy certain spaces, allowing the lows to ruble underground, while the mids and the highs surround the audience from all around.

The 4DSound website puts the whole concept like this: ” “4DSOUND enables you to walk through space and experience sound from all directions… Sounds move around, above, beneath and in-between the listeners. Led by your ears, you’re encouraged to explore the space. You can move between blocks of sound, touch lines of sound, and walk through walls of sound.

Recently, Hamburg artist Stimming put the 4DSound to use in a performance to brilliant results.
