When God decided to create Joel Zimmerman, he thought of Zooey Deschanel, but then decided to give her a complete switch to manhood, took away the baby blue eyes, kept the quirk intact and added a whole lot of tattoos and angst. Okay, so that’s nothing like Zooey, but he’s just as endearing, although in a slightly (very) scary way. What we’re trying to say is that, here you have an artist who isn’t afraid of letting his art be seen by the world and just loves to stick it to the Man. ‘The Man’ here comprising an entire spectrum of different people, ranging from organizers to fellow push-play artists.

However, he isn’t just a guy who puts on a mau5 head, gets up on the console and plays music like you’ve never heard before. He’s a lot more than that, and below we’ve used one of the most prevalent forms of social media to point out how that is. 1. That Cat (and others)

We’re sure Professor Meowingtons is the only cat in the history of cats to possess a PhD, and his expressions in all the pictures do somehow make you feel like he knows something you don’t. Just look at him!

2. He likes wearing shoes that don’t match

Like your music teacher from back in school, Joel has a penchant for wearing shoes which don’t match. Except he doesn’t wear heels, thankfully. The funkier the better, and because he has that cool celebrity DJ thing going for himself, this practice automatically becomes cool. Unlike back in school, with your music teacher of course.

3. He loves Nyan Cat (no, really!)

That time he did this to his car, and the entire internet knew that coffee runs would never be the same again and that if they were ever in Canada, he’d be the easiest guy to spot. That thing we said about colourful personalities now applies to shoes AND cars.

He even matched the car mats! Talk about attention to detail!

4. He adores his fans & knows how to make them feel special

That one time he warmed our hearts when he met Darius, his littlest and biggest fan who drew a different mau5 head everyday until he got to meet his idol. Darius spent the entire day with Zimmerman, and we knew how happy he was when Joel made him the ‘most stoked kid on the planet’.

5. He turned his cat into ‘Miss Nyan Cat’

That time he turned his cat into Miss Nyan Cat, and love blossomed. Leading to him turning his car into Miss Nyan Cat – but you already know that.

Just like Professor Meowingtons – not amused.

6. He loves Tim Hortons, and takes his coffee how he makes his tunes – Extra Large Double Double.

All his coffee runs are just an excuse to make a quick run to Tim Hortons.

7. He once got hit on by a dude

That one time he got hit on by a dude with possibly the classiest pick up line in the universe. As straight as he is, we’re sure Joel was flattered that night.

8. He loves his tattoos

That time he got this tattoo and you were wishing you got the same one. It’s perfect for him, what with all the ‘debates’ he gets into now and then. ‘You got an opinion? Here’s a fist bump.”

9. He’s a discerning fashionista in his own right

That time he received these shoes and you realized that apart from all the amazing things he already is, Joel Zimmerman is a discerning fashionista too.

And that time he put up a picture of a pineapple in a cup, captioned it ‘F*** you’, got 13,000 likes and you realized Joel Zimmerman was Deadmau5, and he didn’t give a f***.
