Dirty South & Deniz Koyu – Halo (Original Mix)

Phazing Records head honcho Dirty South joins hands with Deniz Koyu to release the finished product of their highly anticipated collaboration titled ‘Halo’. Which is a result of a joint studio session back in late August of last year.
A set-staple for both Dirty South & Deniz Koyu in recent times, ‘Halo’ is heavily influenced by Dirty South’s signature synth work and to boost such stellar synths Koyu throws his own chords in the mix to ensure a vibrant drop. The track rallies the duo’s knack for melodic stylings alongside their superior production values to create a solid first release of 2013 for Phazing Records and sets the tone for what should be a stellar year both Dirty South and Deniz Koyu.
Out now on Beatport.
Dirty South & Deniz Koyu – Halo (Preview)

Phazing Records kicks off 2013 with a firing new collaboration from Dirty South & Deniz Koyu called ‘Halo’. The track had been in the making for a while and has been in circulation as rumor on the blogs of the world but now it is confirmed to be released on 4th Feb. ‘Halo’ is Dirty South’s first production with Deniz Koyu and they have produced a polished and powerful anthem that will be a peak time track for all DJ’s. All we can get from this 1.30 mins teaser is the emphatic melody and a bass heavy melodic drop that will definitely make the track a chart buster on its release. Watch out for this banger!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DENIZ KOYU!
One of our favourite producers and DJ’s, the extremely talented Deniz Koyu will be headlining today at MTV‘s MTV Bloc Party in Mumbai and it is our utmost honour to bring to you an exclusive interview with the man himself!
Q) So Deniz, how’s it going? How’s India?
DENIZ KOYU: Great! I arrived yesterday very early in the morning, I went to sleep and then I just worked in the hotel room. I haven’t seen that much yet, but yeah I’m excited.
Q) So today you’re playing in Mumbai. This is one of your first festivals that you’re headlining right?
DENIZ KOYU: Yup yup, that’s true.
Q) We believe you were Artist To Watch Out by MTV in 2012. How was the feeling when that came about?
DENIZ KOYU: Oh that was amazing. It was a great feeling. I remember seeing it on the internet site and then I read it and it was amazing.
Q) You started off listening to Indie pop and a lot of pop music and then you went on to electronic music. How did you go about this transition?
DENIZ KOYU: When I was a kid, I used to listen to a lot of Michael Jackson. He was my first idol. Very mainstream, and I think it’s very normal. And then when you’re very interested in music then you dive into it. You don’t listen to mainstream, you look for something more interesting. I’ve always been more interested in everything that’s more electronic, not only music related but I also work a lot with computers and create a lot of stuff with computers, I’m more of a technical guy so that’s maybe why I like electronic music, I’m more of a synth loving sort of guy.

Q) At what age did you start producing?
DENIZ KOYU: I started at the age of 15, when I was trying out my first music program and then at 17-18 I started to buy some synthesisers and some more studio equipment and then I got more & more into it.
Q) We heard Fedde Le Grand heard you for the first time and then went on to bring your track out on his label?
DENIZ KOYU: Yes that’s right. I think that was in 2010. Pretty recent, not too long ago.
Q) We’ve heard your track, “Follow You” featuring Wynter Gordon and it’s been very successful and is very popular here in India as well. Tell us a little about how you got down to doing the track?
DENIZ KOYU: Actually that production took me quite a while. I started with an idea which is quite different from the final song, I had this idea lying around for half a year maybe and I didn’t know what to do with it and then I looked at it again, and I added the main melody where Wynter Gordon adds her vocals, and first I played this melody on an instrument and then I sent the melody to Wynter Gordon and then she added her vocals and then basically I changed it a lot I cut her vocals. I did the technical bit, haha.
Q) Did you know Wynter Gordon before the collaboration?
DENIZ KOYU: Well not personally, but she’s working with Atlantic Records and I know those guys very well and once I went to New York into the studio with her basically, and she was recording her album and I’m a big fan of her and I just went inside to listen to her and see how the session goes and yeah we spoke a bit and we said we could do something together and in 2-3 months I sent her the record.
Q) Since we’re getting technical, what does your studio compromise of? Are you more of a hardware guy or a software guy?
DENIZ KOYU: Totally software, everything’s software. You don’t really need to spend money, it’s totally unnecessary. I use Cubase and I got one macbook that I use on the road but in my studio, my studio computer is a PC and I got all my software on it. All you need is some good speakers and a good room so the acoustics are good, it’s important. I got a Virus Ti too, but I never use it.
.
Q) What can we expect from your set today?
DENIZ KOYU: Well I will be playing some new tracks, some new productions. One new track from Refune records called “Rage”, I have one upcoming collaboration with Dirty South. I think it’s a very exciting track, I’m very happy with it, I will play that one and one more of my tracks which I have released yet, an ID and then some edits mashups etc. I like to play not commercial, but not underground either.
Q) A little controversial, but do you just press play or do you like playing to the people?
DENIZ KOYU: Well I like to observe the crowd and see what they are into and I like to show them as much new stuff as possible, depends how open minded they are. So Yes, I always play my sets to the crowd!
Q) So what is Deniz Koyu’s most #bangin track?
DENIZ KOYU: At the moment it would be my track “Rage” and I also like “Reload” by Sebastian Ingrosso and Tommy Trash and then I love Fedde Le Grand’s new track “Raw” quite a bit too.
Q) Since we’re talking about the future, do you have any plans on opening your own recording label, like Fedde has ‘Flamingo’ and Ingrosso has ‘Refune’?
DENIZ KOYU: I definitely want to do that but it’s too early for me at the moment because I’m so busy with everything. I believe in the beginning you have to be fast, that’s important. I’m planning maybe next year, 2014 maybe.
Q) Koyu is derived from your last name, Akcakoyunlu, Do you believe a stage name is important for an artist to keep?
DENIZ KOYU: It is. Atleast in the beginning because people have to remember the name. After a while if you’re very successful and if your music is good, people will learn your name no matter how complicated it is.
Q) Any advice for upcoming producers?
DENIZ KOYU: It’s always very hard to give one general advice, it’s all about working very hard and putting a lot of effort in it. Whats smart is that, these days don’t try to find a record label and then send out all your very early works to the label, because if you’re honest with yourself your initial work will not be very good. If you compare your initial work to your current, you’ll know it’s not very good. That’s why in the beginning I wouldn’t send out my work to all record labels, because the thing is they’ll listen once and if it’s not good, in the second email they’ll ignore it. I think it’s good in the beginning to spread your stuff on the internet for free and if it’s great, people will recognize it and you will get attention.
Thank you for the interview! We’ll catch you at the MTV Bloc Party today!
Throwback Thursday-Deniz Koyu

This week’s Throwback Thursday is about January 18th’s MTV Bloc Party headliner,Deniz Koyu. He is a Turkish producer/DJ who was born in Germany and fell in love with this profession in his early teens. He has not come out with any albums yet, but has a myriad of remixes and singles which have received immense critical acclaim for. The three songs covered in this article are “Tung”,”The Young Ones”,”What We Are”, and “Lose Control.”
Tung
Like every other #Tbt, the first song of the article is the first song the producer created which jettisoned his/her career into the limelight. Koyu was already a known commodity when “Tung” came out but became much more famous for this song after it came out a little over 2 years ago. It’s not old enough to really be considered a throwback, but there is no doubt that this is the reason as to why he headlines concerts and festivals worldwide.
The Young Ones
This is the oldest track in this article as it came out 2009. Koyu began his professional career in 2007 with a lot of remixes, so this is actually one of his very first singles. It is a progressive house track with a slow buildup leading to the drop. This will help show how he has changed his production style over the past couple of years from more of a progressive artist to a big room house artist today.
What We Are
This song first came out at the beginning of 2010 and is a Bangin Beats favorite. These vocals are perfect for sing alongs and the drop is sure to make the dance floor explode with raging excitement.
Lose Control
The original mix of the song by Deniz Koyu is excellent, but this remix is just as good or even a little bit better than the original. This is definitely a banger and a song that everybody needs to listen to!
The MTV Bloc Party taking place in Mumbai is going to be spectacular as the headliners of the Friday and Saturday shows are at the pinnacle of their careers and are guaranteed to bring the place down with their brilliant sets. Friday’s Bloc Party will have Deniz Koyu headlining and Alesso will be closing out on Saturday. You can read more about Deniz Koyu and the MTV Bloc Party by clicking here.
MTV Bloc Party “Know Your Venue”

I’m sure we’re all pretty psyched that MTV Bloc Party is going to commence tomorrow, but before you leave your house tomorrow to return absolutely wasted and left with memories that will imprint in your head, do you really know your venues? Here’s where we help you out.

So the very first venue, the main venue, where you’ll be able to see the likes of artists like Deniz Koyu and Alesso, is Central Bloc. If you’re right now googling Central Bloc on Google Maps and get no results, fret not, that’s just an alias. Central Bloc is located at Juhu Hotel Lawns, which is right beside Tulip Star Hotel, which is incredibly infamous within Juhu, so you should have no problems reaching the venue. A little tip for you little ravers, try and use public transport or use a designated driver. We all presume you’re going to be under the influence of alcohol and it comes without saying, Don’t drink and drive. You’re also bound to expect quite some traffic, with 1000′s of ravers all approaching one venue.

Central Bloc, i.e Juhu Hotel Lawns, is going to be facing the beach. That’s right, in all it’s simplicity, Central Bloc is a lawn facing the beach to give you a perfect Sundown experience and welcomes the night almost perfectly. Make sure you’re wearing the right raving attire.
Now let’s bring on the night, (no pun intended).
After we’re all done being Bongbastic and losing our minds, the party doesn’t stop there. MTV has a few tricks up it’s sleeves. So it brings you, not one – not two, but THREE after-parties called Night Bloc. And they’re all spread over Juhu so you get to choose which party you want to be attending.
The first of the venues, located in the prestigious JW Marriott Hotel, is Enigma. Enigma has been synonymous with clubbing scene in Mumbai for many years now, and they decided to take this a notch up. Enigma recently underwent renovation, just in time to accommodate MTV’s Night Bloc Party. Enigma will see the likes of artists like Vandana, Pearl, Matthew Charles and a duel set by Nawed Khan and Nikhil Chinapa.

MTV likes to keep it classy, which brings us to the second venue, Gadda Da Vida, located in the grande Novotel Hotel in Juhu. This famous lounge is located on the beach, being sea-facing again so you don’t miss out the feel of Central Bloc, and has a brilliant deck. If you choose to attend this venue, you’re going to be seeing Kumar Swamy, Jean Elan, Pramod Sippy and another duel set by Arjun Vagale and Tuhin Mehta.

Our last and final venue doesn’t hold back of any prestige either, we welcome you to The BeachComber. Located at the Sun N Sand Hotel in Juhu, being neighbors with Novotel Hotel, you should have no problem transiting between these venues. BeachComber, as the name suggests, gives you the feeling that you’re being served drinks with some beautifully delivered music right at a beach. Drop in to this venue to see witness AFM, Anish Sood + Lost Stories, REJI and B.R.E.E.D.

Now that we’ve got you well-versed with the venues and the artists associated with them, we from Bangin Beats hope you have a Bangin time at the MTV Bloc Party. We wish all you little ravers a great time and be safe.
Here’s the full schedule so you can plan your Bloc Party to suit your tastes:
MTV Bloc Party “Know Your Artist” – Deniz Koyu

Deniz Koyu is a Turkish electronic dance music producer & DJ who was born in Germany.
His course to become a musician was set at the tender age of five when he began to learn the piano. It didn’t take long until he discovered his enthusiasm for synthesizers and drums, getting inspiration from artists such as Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk or Cassius. It is no surprise he followed suit, spending his pocket money on all the second-hand synths and drum machines he could find. Through his teenage years, Deniz spent his days DJing and editing his favourite tracks using small tape recorders and sampling what he could.

In 2011 Deniz’ single releases “Tung” and “Hertz” on Flamingo Recordings and his remixes for James Blunt’s “Dangerous” and Kaskade’s “Turn It Down” evolved into huge house anthems at clubs and festivals around the globe, and were played extensively by the likes of Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia, Fedde Le Grand, Avicii & many more.
Come 2012 and MTV added Deniz to their “EDM Rookies To Watch” list, calling him “a blazing new talent” and putting him in the company of the likes of Alesso, Zedd, R3hab and Nicky Romero. Following this he was hand-picked by Axwell to play at the world premiere of Cosmic Opera in New York and also performed at Ultra Music Festival Miami and got confirmed for his first-ever Sensation White and Mysteryland appearances.

Production-wise Deniz kicked off 2012 with a remix for Fedde Le Grand’s “So Much Love”, a heavyweight collaboration with Fedde and Johan Wedel on “Turn It”, and his uber-hit single “Bong” on Refune Records. Next up came “Follow You” with Wynter Gordon on Big Beat Records, remixes for Zedd, Miike Snow and Digitalism’s all time classic “Zdarlight”.

With a fully busy schedule which includes playing sold-out shows all across the world, his bi-weekly “Bongbastic” radio show and an amazing string of new releases lined up for the next months, there is certainly no stopping Deniz now.
Stay tuned and ready yourselves to witness Deniz Koyu live at MTV India‘s MTV Bloc Party. Until then check out what Nikhil Chinapa has to say about Deniz!
Deniz Koyu – Rage (previewed/played live by SHM)

First premiered on Swedish House Mafia’s One Last Tour last year, ‘Rage’ plays the peak time sensibilities we expect from Koyu close to heart, using ascending rhythmic progressions and an adrenaline fuelled climax of grinding leads to seal yet another fine example of Dance music fit for the club floor and festival circuit alike.
MTV have also added Koyu to their list of “EDM Rookies To Watch” list, calling him “a blazing new talent”
With a further solo offering alongside Dirty South enroute for Phazing Records imprint and considerable mileage courtesy of the Generation Wild Tour, 2013 looks to be a definitive year for this leading German asset.

On 18th and 19th January 2013 – Juhu, Mumbai
MTV is hosting the first ever Bloc Party in India when the Juhu bloc transforms into the most happening party destination. Presenting the MTV BLOC PARTY, for the very first time in India and it all starts in the party capital of India, MUMBAI, in Juhu on 18th and 19th January, 2013. Beer arena. Sundown parties by the beach. Massive after-parties spread out across the street.
Over 20 best DJs bring to you the new genres of dance music along with chosen indie music bands and live acts. One ticket gives you entry into the bloc and then you may choose to hop from one experience to another to enjoy multiple party experiences through the weekend.
Talking about MTV Bloc Party, Aditya Swamy, EVP and Business Head, MTV India said “Bombay is the party capital and what better way to salute the spirit of the city and it’s culture by throwing the longest party ever in one of the coolest blocs in the city – juhu…with 1 ticket for multiple parties, we bring you one experience better than the other..put on those dancing shows and get ready to chase the beat”

The MTV Bloc Party starts right along the shore of the Arabian Sea on the lawns of the classic Juhu Hotel. Unwind with a chilled out Bier-garten (beer-arena) experience right by the beach and watch the sun set as you sip on an assortment of international brands of beer and groove to the live music by Safar, Sky Rabbits and Goddess Gagged. Good friends, Good food, Good beer and soulful music are the theme of the afternoon.
As the sun goes down, the dance music starts kicking in. MTV Bloc Party brings in the sundown with the world’s best DJs. Headlining is Alesso, who is also ranked among the top 20 DJs in the world & named as the EDM artist to watch out for by MTV International and Deniz Koyu along with Opiuo, Simon Dunmore, Jean Elan, Shovell, Cosmo Klein, Mathew Charles, Pearl, Arjun Vagale, Breed, Lost Stories, Nawed Khan, BF, Anish Sood, AFM, Reji, Jez Periera and Willy. The event is hosted by MTV’s very own VJ & DJ Nikhil Chinappa and programmed by Submerge.
With the night fall post 10 PM, the party spills out of the central hub (Juhu Hotel lawns) over to the bars and clubs in Night Bloc, where international DJ’s and India’s top EDM artists play different genres of electronic music. The MTV Bloc Party wrist-band allows the party hoppers access to all the clubs across the Night Bloc and club hop with MTV’s hop-on-hop-off Bloc Party cabs that will ferry you across venues to ensure a seamless party transition.

MTV’s very own VJ Nikhil Chinappa, who is also hosting the event, said “Music, particularly dance music, brings people together like nothing else. When Submerge started 10 years ago, it was an alternative to the mainstream, playing non-commercial EDM. Today dance music is a part of the mainstream and it’s spreading its wings beyond Goa beaches. Now, if you’re from Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, and even non-traditional dance music centers like Hubli, Kolkata, Hyderabad, or Indore, you don’t even have to fly across India to hear great dance music. You can find it just a few minutes’ drive away. And, that’s the essence of #MTVBlocParty. It’s in your backyard, bringing the music we love to your doorstep in a way that’s fun, original… and uniquely MTV”
So, if you’re an avid party buff, love good food, enjoy your beer and thrive on dance music, it’s time for you to hit the #MTVBlocParty and let the music take control! As the beer sets you in the right spirit, step into the dancing shoes and gear up for the first of its kind, MTV Bloc Party!

Alesso and Deniz Koyu Live at MTV India Bloc Party in Mumbai

Supporting these two heavyweights will be some of the brightest talent in the EDM scene, with the likes of Jean Elan, Cosmo Klein, Simon Dunmore and Shovel all spinning across the venues.
For those who don’t know, this is the first time that the concept of the “MTV Bloc Party” will be premiered in India. Here is a quick overview on what to expect:

One ticket (the one with the Night bloc) will give you entry into the initial party and then you basically hop from one venue to another. All in all you are going to be soaking in multiple acts in a single evening.
Mr.Aditya Swamy who is the Business Head and EVP of MTV India perfectly sums up this entire experience, “Mumbai is always hungry for new experiences. It’s a city whose mantra is work hard, party harder. We wanted to create something that gives the people what they want. With over 20 hours of non-stop partying the Bloc Party is something every party animal in Mumbai has dreamed about. And with such an incredible line up of DJ’s and an audio visual experience like you have never seen, all you have to do is Chase the Beat and be part of Mumbai’s longest party.
