Cinema United Extends 5-Year Contact With CEO Michael O’Leary

Cinema United has announced that CEO and President Michael O’Leary will continue in his role for another five years following a contract renewal.

Since his start with the company in May 2023, O’Leary has been instrumental in highlighting the significant economic and cultural contributions of cinemas globally. Under his leadership, the Cinema United brand has been developed to consolidate and amplify support for cinema from local single-screen venues to major global theater chains, with an emphasis on theatrical presentations.

“Leading the dedicated individuals who manage and own theaters both in the U.S. and internationally remains a profound privilege of my career. I am driven by the future prospects of this iconic sector,” O’Leary remarked in a press statement. “I extend my gratitude to Chairman Mike Bowers, the former Chair Bob Bagby, and the entire Executive Board of Cinema United for entrusting me with this role. I must also thank the committed team at Cinema United, whose innovation and effort directly contribute to our achievements. I look forward to continuing our advocacy and support for the industry.”

“Michael has consistently shown himself to be a fervent and committed champion for the exhibition sector,” commented Mike Bowers, Chair of the Cinema United Board and CEO of Harkins Theatres. “With his extensive background in both the film industry and legislative affairs, Michael’s dedication to unity, strategic planning, and ongoing enhancement has garnered him the trust and admiration of our members, regardless of their size, as well as our partners in the studios. The upcoming five years are poised to bring exciting new ventures for our industry, and we are fortunate to have Michael’s reliable leadership and the skilled team at Cinema United during this period.”

In a recent report released in September, Cinema United outlined that the film industry domestically has invested over $1.5 billion in enhancing theater infrastructure over the past year.
