Kirsten Dunst Wants To Star In Minecraft 2 To Make Money

Kirsten Dunst is actively engaging in both independent cinema and prominent commercial projects. Her upcoming role in the crime comedy “Roofman,” directed by Derek Cianfrance and featuring co-star Channing Tatum, is a testament to her dynamic career choices. Despite having taken a break from major summer blockbusters, Dunst is considering a return to large-scale cinema with an interest in “Minecraft 2.”

In a detailed discussion with Town & Country, Dunst expressed her thoughts on finding a balance between her artistic drive and the necessity for financial stability. She revealed that her children’s enjoyment of the first “Minecraft” movie sparked her interest in participating in its sequel, humorously noting the appeal of being involved in a project that might not be a financial burden.

Dunst’s career is marked by a variety of roles that showcase her versatility, transitioning smoothly between major hits and independent successes. She first gained major attention with her role as Claudia in “Interview With The Vampire” in 1994, followed by a notable performance as Mary Jane in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy. Her talent has also been recognized in critically acclaimed films such as “Melancholia” and “The Power of the Dog,” the latter earning her an Oscar nomination in 2022. Filmmaker Sofia Coppola, who has worked with Dunst, praised her for never being clichéd and likened her current career phase to that of Gena Rowlands, highlighting her ability to take on complex characters.

The original “Minecraft” movie, which featured Jack Black and Jason Momoa, was a commercial juggernaut. It earned $955 million globally, despite receiving a lukewarm critical reception. It ranked as the third highest-grossing movie of 2025 and inspired numerous viral trends on social media. This success is quite different from the more nuanced and critically acclaimed projects Dunst has recently been involved with, but she seems unbothered by the contrast.

The “Minecraft” movie has also been released on various home video formats, including a 4K Blu-ray edition available in a collectible steelbook case priced at $38, catering to its extensive fan base.
