Trick ‘r Treat Restored in 4K for Theatrical Re-Release

4K Restoration and Theatrical Release of the Horror Anthology Classic “Trick ‘r Treat”

The beloved 2007 horror anthology, Trick ‘r Treat, has undergone a 4K restoration and is set to screen in cinemas across North America, just in time for the Halloween season.

Legendary Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Saga Arts have collaborated with Fathom Entertainment to bring Trick ‘r Treat to the big screen for a special two-night event on October 14 and 16, 2025. Tickets are available for purchase through Fathom Entertainment.

Originally, Trick ‘r Treat was showcased at various film festivals and even at San Diego Comic-Con, but it did not receive a traditional theatrical release, debuting instead on DVD and Blu-ray. Over the years, the film has gained a substantial following and is now revered as a Halloween cult classic.

The film is notable for its character Sam, an enigmatic trick-or-treater dressed in orange footie pajamas and a burlap sack mask. Fathom Entertainment’s press release highlights Sam as “the mischievous spirit who enforces the rules of Halloween and punishes those who ignore them.”

The narrative of Trick ‘r Treat intricately connects various sinister Halloween stories: Dylan Baker (known from “Spider-Man 2” and “Spider-Man 3”) plays a high school principal who doubles as a serial killer; Anna Paquin (from the “X-Men” series) portrays a young woman whose quest for the perfect partner leads to dread; Leslie Bibb (from “The White Lotus”) and her on-screen husband face dire consequences for overlooking Halloween customs; and Brian Cox (“Succession”) confronts Sam in a chilling encounter. The film is celebrated for its dark humor, grisly scenes, and its high rewatch value, solidifying Sam’s status as a quintessential icon of Halloween.

Accompanying the re-release, audiences will be treated to a featurette that explores the making of the film, marking Michael Dougherty’s debut as a feature film director. Additionally, Dougherty’s 1996 animated short “Season’s Greetings,” which first introduced the character of Sam, has also been restored in 4K and will be shown prior to the main feature.
