Lego Announces Exciting New Sets Inspired by Fan Ideas
Lego has just unveiled upcoming sets that owe their inception to the imaginative contributions of fans through the Lego Ideas initiative. These sets will feature beloved characters from The X-Files and a unique episode of The Simpsons that includes a whale theft plot, as well as the iconic duo, Wallace & Gromit.
The chosen sets stem from the “Build Your Nostalgia: ’90s Throwback” contest via Lego Ideas, urging participants to channel the 1990s through their designs. Notably, the first Wallace & Gromit film aired in 1989, but since two more were released in the ’90s, their inclusion fits the theme. Similarly, The X-Files, synonymous with ’90s culture alongside trends like ripped jeans and grunge music, will be featured in the new lineup along with a detailed model of Godzilla, planned for a later release.
The X-Files-themed set, created by a fan designer known as WetWired, features a forest scene complete with FBI agents Mulder and Scully, a UFO, an alien, and even a miniature version of Mulder’s iconic office. The set also includes additional minifigures such as FBI Assistant Director Skinner, the Jersey Devil, and Eugene Tooms, characters that have left their mark on viewers’ memories.
On the other hand, the Wallace & Gromit set, designed by Pidelium, captures the essence of the 1995 short “A Close Shave.” It portrays the inventive British character and his clever dog with their motorcycle and window-cleaning gear. Unfortunately, fans of the duo’s cheese adventures will note the absence of any cheese elements in the set.
It’s important to mention that these fan-designed sets might undergo some modifications before they hit the shelves. While the release dates might be some time away, these representations of classic ’90s nostalgia are sure to excite enthusiasts and collectors. For those eager to engage in some immediate Lego fun, current options include a charming set based on Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon, as well as several Donkey Kong sets, now available again on Amazon.
