GMKTec has recently unveiled its newest addition to the mini gaming PC market, the Evo-X2. This device is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395, the same processor found in the well-regarded Asus ROG Flow Z13.
The standard model of the GMKTec Evo-X2 comes equipped with 64GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD, with the option to upgrade to a model featuring double these specifications. The design includes a triple-fan cooling system and offers a wide range of connectivity options, including five USB Type-A ports, two USB4 ports, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 5.4, and Wi-Fi 7.
The real test for the Evo-X2 will be its performance, particularly how well it manages heat dissipation. Success in this area could make it an appealing choice for enthusiasts of compact computing.
Be prepared for a high price tag given the advanced specifications packed into its compact frame. The starting price for the 64GB/1TB configuration is $1,499, escalating to $1,999 for the 128GB/2TB model.
Surprisingly Compact Powerhouse
Despite its diminutive size, comparable to a small knife block, the Evo-X2 boasts impressive specifications that promise strong performance across gaming, creative tasks, and AI applications. Mini PCs are increasingly becoming a powerful alternative to traditional desktops, although it remains rare for them to fully substitute for systems with dedicated graphics units. Like the Asus ROG Flow Z13, this system utilizes the same APU and has shown promising capability comparable to the laptop version of the Nvidia RTX 4060 in preliminary reviews. However, the actual performance of the Evo-X2 will need to be evaluated in detailed tests.
The specifications suggest that it should handle modern games at medium settings and cope well with creative and AI-driven tasks, thanks to its dedicated neural processor.
