A finale that shakes up New York
The conclusion of Daredevil Born Again plunges New York into an unprecedented situation. Wilson Fisk, now mayor, declares war on the masked vigilantes, condemning them to either capture or execution. This radical decision comes after a failed assassination attempt against Fisk by Bullseye, foiled by Matt Murdock. Faced with this threat, Daredevil decides to form a resistance to regain control of the city, but one major hero is conspicuous by his absence: Spider-Man.
The Spider-Man enigma
Spider-Man’s absence from the series raises legitimate questions. Although mentioned by Fisk, who refers to “a man disguised as a spider”, Peter Parker remains invisible even as his hometown undergoes a major crisis.
This situation seems all the stranger given that the character is confirmed as active in the post-No Way Home universe, maintaining his role as neighborhood protector.
The theories behind absence
Several hypotheses attempt to explain this notable absence. Some suggest that Spider-Man could be involved in the events of Avengers: Doomsday, while others point to a possible connection with the upcoming plot of Spider-Man 4.
However, the real reason is more pragmatic and linked to legal considerations.
Legal constraints revealed
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of series, has clarified the situation: Sony holds the exclusive live-action broadcast rights to Spider-Man for the small screen.
This contractual restriction prevents the character from appearing in any MCU series broadcast on Disney+, explaining his absence in Daredevil Born Again.
Hope for future collaboration
Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, remains optimistic about a future collaboration between the two heroes.
Recalling the precedent of his own cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the actor highlights the narrative potential of a meeting between the two characters, building on their rich shared history in the comics.
