Neil Druckmann Has An Ending In Mind For The Last Of Us TV Series

At the beginning of this month, Neil Druckmann expressed reservations about the possibility of developing The Last of Us: Part 3 video game and hinted that the HBO adaptation might be the final chapter in the series. Even though The Last of Us Season 2, and possibly Season 3, will follow the storyline of The Last of Us: Part 2, Druckmann has already thought of a conclusive ending for the television series.

“It’s essential to have an ending,” Druckmann shared with IGN. “When I was working on The Last of Us 1, I wasn’t sure if there would be a follow-up, so it was crucial to have a clear-cut conclusion… I need a definite conclusion… Everything must come together perfectly. I’m not sure how long I will continue in this role or if I’ll get another chance like this. Thus, I’m not holding anything back. Currently, we have a specific ending in mind, and that will be the definitive conclusion for this narrative.”

Druckmann also mentioned that he is quite occupied with finishing up The Last of Us Season 2, possibly working on Season 3 if HBO decides to continue the series, and diving into Naughty Dog’s upcoming major project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Recent reports suggest that the release of Intergalactic could be delayed until as late as 2027.

Before the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO and Max slated for April 13, Four Sigmatic will release a special The Last of Us coffee blend featuring the cordyceps mushrooms, which are central to the show’s plot. Additionally, Druckmann has recently discussed the reasons behind the altered introduction of Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby, who is one of the key figures in Season 2.
