Loyola Marymount University Launches First-ever Innovators Film Festival

Loyola Marymount University is set to debut its first Innovators Film Festival, focusing on artificial intelligence with a series of panel discussions and immersive experiences.

This no-cost event, organized by LMU’s School of Film and Television, is set to showcase a variety of student films alongside workshops and panel discussions featuring industry experts delving into the ethical implications of AI in the entertainment sector. The festival will kick off with a keynote from Reid AI, a digital avatar inspired by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. The session will be moderated by Ben Relles and Parth Patil, who played significant roles in the avatar’s development.

Prominent figures in the festival lineup include Ed Ulbrich, Chief Content Officer at Metaphysic, Sydney Bright from Webtoon who serves as the head of global animation, Holly Willis, a chair at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and Dave Clark, co-founder and CCO of Promise.

Carolyn Giardina, the senior editor for entertainment technology and crafts at The Bangin Beats, will lead the Women Teaching Tech panel that features educators from film schools.

Highlights of the Festival

The festival will also present various experiential installations showcasing cutting-edge technology. These include Sony’s demonstration of its XYN software and hardware impacting motion capture and 3D design, Google’s Veo 2 video generation technology, Metaphysic’s AI-driven performance generation tools, and Adobe’s demonstration of their latest technological advancements.

Joanne Moore, Dean of LMU’s School of Film and Television, expressed excitement about the festival, highlighting its role in preparing students for the evolving demands of the entertainment industry. “We’re thrilled to introduce this festival which underscores LMU’s commitment to integrating AI into responsible filmmaking,” she stated.

The event will be held on the Westchester campus of Loyola Marymount University.
