Daft Punk, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia & More Set To Receive Orchestral Covers

Orchestral covers of dance music tracks continue to grace our ears every now and then, and more often than not, leaves us with a whole new outlook towards the individual piece of music itself. While we’re not entirely alienated from the concept, with Above & Beyond having already pushed it into the mainstream with their critically acclaimed ‘Acoustic’ albums and subsequent live performances, Swedish composer Hans Ek is all set to deliver his take on some of dance music’s biggest tracks till date.

In a collaboration with Stockholm Philharmonic, the composer has crafted Dance Music Symphony, a collection of 17 tracks which will cover legendary tracks by Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex and many more. Talking about the ambitious project, Ek said:

“I listened through a vast amount of dance classics and new hits. From a palette of the greatest music I selected songs perfectly suite to a symphonic ‘remix.’ For example, Massive Attack’s ‘Unfinished Sympathy’ already had a strong orchestral presence, and Daft Punk’s ‘Aerodynamic’ had elements of Vivaldi and Prokofiev.”

Dance Music Symphony will be premiered at Bråvalla Festival in Sweden on July 2nd, where the live cuts will be performed by the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra.
