One of the most delightful parts of being a Steve Aoki fan is experiencing the genre crossing collaborations he produces with artists across the board. In his attempt to leave no stone unturned when it comes to collaborations across genres, his latest collaboration came as a dance meets subdued pop track with WALK THE MOON and Boehm.
“I really enjoyed working with both Boehm and Walk the Moon on ‘Back 2 U,’” says Aoki. “We each brought our own musical style to the track to make a song that I am so excited for everyone to hear.”
The track was premiered on Apple’s Beats 1 radio on May 18. It starts out like with a beat similar to many of the dance/pop songs we’ve been hearing over the past couple of years. Vocals and beats build up the first minute of the song. What is interesting is the use of guitar in the song to lend it its signature rhythm. After the first minute, the build up to the drop begins and leads into a segment which is going to be a popular summer festival tune for sure. It reminds you of the times when you danced without a care in the world. While it doesn’t happen very often in dance music, the lyrics of the song and the music compliment each other quite well in this case to deliver a perfect summer track.
Not one to back away from experimenting, Aoki has also used the theme of the song for his #Back2UVideo contest, where fans to submit photos of people near and dear to them for the song’s upcoming music video.
