Japanese Pioneer Of Electronic Music, Isao Tomita Has Passed Away

Isao Tomita, Japanese synthesizer and electronic music pioneer has died at the age of 84. The music veteran passed away on Thursday, May 5th and is known for his contribution to the field of music who also helped introduce synthesizer music to his native country.

A tremendous legacy which consists of over 20 studio albums, numerous movie scores and much more, the visionary was considered as one of the most famous producers of analog synth arrangements. The revered composer’s debut album ‘Snowflakes Are Dancing‘ comprised of Claude Debussy‘s “tone paintings” marked his breakthrough as the record topped Billboard Classic Music charts and received four Grammy nominations making him the first Japanese artist to be nominated.

More recently, on Saturday, Tomita’s official Facebook page also shared details of his forthcoming musical titled ‘Dr. Coppelius‘ which he was working on. The project was dedicated to his longtime friend Hideo Itokawa, the father of Japanese rocketry, who dreamed of creating a hologram in the form of a ballet dancer. Also speaking to The Japan Times last December, the veteran had said:

“my priority right now is staying healthy, but I’d like to finish ‘Dr. Coppelius’ as much as possible so that, even if something happens to me, others could finish it.”
