The second edition of The Lost Party is soon to be underway, having already established itself as one of the better indie festivals in India. They’ve really focused on the promotions this time, with a classical Indian theme spread across every aspect of the festival. They’ve christened the campsite Ghar, the activity area Nukkad, and the stages as Idhar and Udhar.
The first iteration of this indie festival was quite a success, but what’s worth noting is the quality of artists The Lost Party brings in. With Martin Roth and Yolanda Be Cool at the top of a well-stacked lineup last year, they clearly seemed to have bumped up both in quality and the number of acts. Without further due, here are 7 of them you must check out before dancing to their tunes on soft grass:
1. HVOB
The Austrian duo of Anna Müller and Paul Wallner started their journey in 2012, and there has been no looking back since. Deep, emotive sounds dominate their flawless productions, and their live acts are a treat to watch. HVOB, short for Her Voice Over Boys, has achieved notable success in a short span, having performed at SXSW in the States, apart from some other ones.
2. Fakear
France is a significant contributor to the world of electronic music, with talented producers making big waves around the globe. Fakear is one of them. He’s a propagator of a genre that’s slowly losing its sheen among the crowds, indie dance/nu-disco. The French native has supported the likes of Wax Tailor and Flume, and has also released an official remix for ODESZA. Make sure you don’t miss this one, as Fakear will bring nu-disco back to the dance floor.
3. Paraphoniks
Paraphoniks consists of Aman Nath and Shatrunjai Raj Dewan, and they’re based in Mumbai. Their synth-infused productions are an aural treat, but their live act is what defines the emerging duo. Preferring to bring two huge racks full of synthesizers, drum machines and mixers on stage, Paraphoniks is what you’d call a true analog experience, leaving no stone unturned in the process.
4. Karsh Kale Soundsystem
Arguably one of the most influential figures in the country’s indie space, Karsh Kale knows how to put on a show, whether it’s a DJ set, or a tabla solo, or a full-blown soundsystem. The latter is making its way to The Lost Party, and you do not want to miss out on this.
5. OX7GEN (Live)
Aditya Ashok specializes in liquid DnB, and as OX7GEN, he has released a bunch of free singles and EPs in the past. After years of performing DJ sets, OX7GEN Live has come into fruition, in the form of a 5-member band. If you want your dose of some good drum n’ bass, OX7GEN‘s gig is a must-watch.
6. Lyre Le Temps
Another French act at The Lost Party, Lyre Le Temps was founded in 2007, and is a three-member act. Their music can be described as swingy, with a hint of jazz and a lot of scratching. This isn’t your normal band: featuring two DJs and a pianist, their songs are peppy and upbeat.
7. Frame/Frame
Frame/Frame is the brainchild of producer and label owner Nikhil Kaul. Electronica is his forte, and he has performed at several indie festivals around the country. He recently released an EP on his newly-formed label Lowlit Music called Flutter.
