Certainly a fact that comes without any astonishment, Major Lazer and DJ Snake‘s ‘Lean On’ has skyrocketed to the very top of the electronic music orbit this past year, and now the hit number has reached yet another milestone as it has been crowned as officially Spotify’s most streamed song of all time. ‘Lean On’ has by now received 526m plays worldwide, according to Spotify, overtaking the previous record holder, ‘Thinking Out Loud‘ by Ed Sheeran.

We wrote this song with MØ very early from an instrumental Jr Blender created in some sessions in Trinidad. It was a strong hook. Diplo explained earlier this year. Very big to me but the production was lacking an attitude we needed. A year later I remixed the song at a completely different tempo and asked Dj Snake for a signature post chorus. After he did his thing me, MØ and Blender rewrote the song at the new tempo in Las Vegas and made something very unique that became our album’s lead-off single. We’re super proud of this song.

Lean On’ was recorded by Major Lazer only after it was turned down by both Rihanna and Nicki Minaj, something Diplo came to regard as a blessing in disguise. Having already gone platinum in August earlier this year it would be in restraint to say that that the track’s fresh status is justified.
