Aerreo has had a rather eventful 2015 already. Having being signed up to Cloud 9 Publishing in April, the Chandigarh based DJ and producer has since released a new single, ‘Midnight‘, and announced a collaboration with Dutch duo Disfunktion, which will be released on Armada Music‘s main imprint, making him the first Indian producer to do so.
We caught up with the Nikhil for an interview, to discuss his love for music, his upcoming productions and much more. Read on!
TBB: Hi Nikhil, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. How are things?
Aerreo: Hey Guys, All good. It’s a pleasure! Thanks
TBB: You just announced your upcoming collaboration with Disfunktion will be released on Armada Records’ main imprint. How does that feel?
Aerreo: Awesome! Having a release on Armada was one of my goals and it feels unreal to have it accomplished. You feel honored when you get to know one of your tracks will be released on a legendary label in the dance music industry. It’s indeed a dream come true!
TBB: How did the collaboration with Disfunktion come about?
Aerreo: It was all due to the efforts of my management Deep Sound. They got me in touch with the Dutch duo and right from our very first conversation we clicked. Everything went so smooth working with them and in no time we had the track finished.
TBB: You’ve also mentioned another track coming up in November. Can you tell us something about that?
Aerreo: Yes, that’s a melodic progressive track releasing on another big label. It’s not a typical club track and I am really looking forward to it’s release as well. I will mention the title of the track exclusively here, it’s called ‘Black Satellites’
TBB: Which artists do you reckon have had a big influence on your growth as an artist?
Aerreo: I’ve always been captivated by melodies because according to me that is what gives a soul to the track. For me I’ve been influenced by artists like BT, Kaskade, Dubvision, Dirty South, Pierce Fulton and more recently Manse and Sam Feldt.
TBB: How did you get into Electronic music? What’s your story behind it?
Aerreo: It’s a very long but an interesting story. I was hooked to music right from a very young age, but that’s the time when you take it as a hobby of yours. It was not until I was in my first semester of MBA that I decided to pursue music full time and dropped out of college. Although after this too I was working at a Bank. There was a time when I was juggling three jobs in a day, In the morning I was a banker and at night I was a DJ, handling two different residences at local clubs. It was during this time I decided to give up everything and just focus on music and that’s when Point Blank London happened. Moving to London was the best decision I made for my music career as I learned so much about how this industry works and also got to work at one of dance music’s biggest label ‘ Enhanced Music’. Soon after all this I moved back to India and things just took off for me & my career.
TBB: If you had to pick one memorable moment in your career, what would it be?
Aerreo: I would say my first gig at Ministry of Sound, London. The vibe of that place still gives me a buzz
TBB: What’s your creative process in the studio like? Do you follow a particular pattern or go with the flow?
Aerreo: I always start with a melody, ALWAYS. In fact I enjoy writing melodies more than getting in the technicality of production and fine tuning things.
TBB: Other than electronic music, what other genres do you listen to? Any favourite artists or bands?
Aerreo: I used to listen to a lot of Rock music, I even was a DJ at a Rock Bar ages back and I love tunes by Pink Floyd, Metallica, Nirvana, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, The Fray, The Doors etc.
TBB: India’s booming dance music scene has seen a number of bedroom producers trying to make it big. What would your advice be for them?
Aerreo: Just focus on making good music! I get countless demos and some of them are very good in terms of composition & production quality, so I am sure in the coming years there will be a lot more Indian producers making our country proud. Just follow your passion with utter belief and know one thing for sure ‘If you are determined enough and are ready to go that extra mile for your passion, then it’s just a matter of time when your dreams will start coming to life’.
Rather than worrying how it’s going to happen, start believing that it will.
TBB: Given the chance to collaborate with any one producer, who would you like to collaborate with?
Aerreo: Dubvision!
TBB: What are your Top 3 Bangin tracks at the moment?
Aerreo:
- Kaskade – Disarm You
- Joey Dale, Rico & Miella – Winds
- Thomas Newson – Summer Vibes
