Indian Rock Band Lagori Covers Above & Beyond’s ‘We Are All We Need’
When Above & Beyond played in India in 2012 for TATW450/ABGT001, a band covered their hugely successful single ‘Sun & Moon‘. Fast forward to 2015, and Above & Beyond have themselves invited the same band, Lagori, to cover the debut single from their latest studio album, ‘We Are All We Need‘. And boy, have they done a good job.
Giving the track a complete rock makeover with Indian influences, the cover features a beautiful sitar intro, which blends into a sonorous soundscape featuring acoustic and electric guitar, a tight bassline and vocals by frontman Tejas Shankar and guest vocalist Girish Pradhan. The cover largely features Hindi vocals, with the chorus, sung by Girish Pradhan, retaining the original lyrics. The end result is a beautiful rendition of an already emotive track that will stay with you for a while.
Speaking to The Hindu, Edward Rasquinha, who plays the acoustic guitar in the band, said “We were approached by their label Anjunabeats to do a cover for the title track of We Are All We Need and when we heard it the first time, we knew that it’s going to be an amazing venture.”
Speaking further about the cover, Shalini Mohan, bassist for the band, said “We retained the original feel of the song so Above & Beyond fans connect while we’ve added a bit of Lagori to it. It’s a nice mashup of Hindi and English where Girish comes in.”
