Fans of French producer, Hugo Pierre Leclercq better known as Madeon got answers to a wide range of questions in the producer’s most recent Reddit AMA. Madeon sportingly answered all kinds of questions, professional and otherwise. Did you know, if given a choice to choose a Pokemon between Squirtle, Charmander, or Bulbasaur, the producer cheekily chose Salamèche which happens to be french for Charmander. He even went ahead and chatted with a fan casually over how he got together with his girlfriend with the help of the producer’s music.

That’s not all. Madeon teased fans when asked if they could expect a collaboration such as one of Madeon/Phantogram and he hinted that there might already be one in existence! We can’t wait to hear more about this collaboration. The producer also spoke about ‘Adventure’ releasing on 31st March. He also went on to answer a question pertaining to what his live show concept would be like.

“I’m really looking forward to that, it’s what I’ve been working on lately. It’s all Madeon music, with brand new live versions of many songs (old and new). I tried to completely remove my mind from the “live” perspective when making the album, so when I started working on the show I wanted to bring back some of that visceral, harder, collective energy that wasn’t explored a lot on the album, while still staying true to it. I’m working on a lot of ways to interact with the music in ways that I find meaningful (changing the chord progression of a song on the fly for example), improvisation is my favorite part of shows.”

Hugo Pierre Leclercq was quickly asked about what could become of a successor to the “Pop Culture” mashup. “Actually one of the first things I decided after Pop Culture took off was to NOT do Pop Culture 2,” he said.

“I was really worried about the video defining my career and being stuck in some sort of YouTube gimmick, so I decided to move on. I still love it and play it live, and I’m amazed by how much it connected with people though, but I really wanted to focus on my own original music. It’s been a few years now though, so maybe someday.”

MKBHD, Youtube personality who reviews electronics asked Madeon if he would like to collaborate on something to which the producer responded in the affirmative. This is one collaboration we will be watching out for.

Madeon also confirmed that he has grown closer to Porter Robinson and that they have been talking a lot about music lately. But no confirmation has been cited on a collaboration directly.

Madeon’s dream collaboration would be with Paul McCartney or Kanye. That would be one epic collaboration.

Madeon sportingly answered a fan’s unconventional challenge in a really epic manner.

A fan asked Hugo to explain his live setup (when using your launchpads & k2) and how he would select his tracks and what exactly is happening in ableton? The producer was more than happy to help him out.

“I use a software called Bome’s Midi Translator Pro which enables you to program macros interfacing with Ableton and Mac OS.So for example i’ll press a button on the K2 and a series of action will automatically occur (the mouse will move to the browser, click and hold a song, drag it into the relevant spot in the playlist, release the click, move the mouse back where it was, all in a tenth of a second).I spent a lot of time working on that in the summer of 2012. My approach was to imagine my ideal, dream DJing setup, and use those tools to get software behaviors as close as possible to what I wanted, so I could do a lot of interactions very quickly, from the controllers, without touching the mouse.”

The producer also truthfully answered a fan’s question stating that since he was under 21 he wouldn’t hang out in the club after a gig and would leave as he wasn’t really allowed to be there and neither could he drink. All in all, the AMA has us even more excited now for the release of ‘Adventure’ and has us looking forward to the idea of the collaborations mentioned becoming reality soon enough.
