MTV Indies and Live Viacom18 are all set to take Mumbai by storm from April 1st to April 4th with their mega new property called ‘SPIRO‘ – An MTV Indies Takeover. SPIRO has been described to be a one of a kind Urban Takeover that will be the world of celebration of subcultures through Music, Comedy and Cinema. It’s all set to kickstart it’s first edition in Mumbai on 1st April.
When it comes to the lineup for music, Grammy-nominated American electronica producer Pretty Lights aka Derek Vincent Smith will be on headliner duties for SPIRO on April 4th. Pretty Lights has played at the biggest festivals in the world, including Coachella, Bonnaroo Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, Outsidelands and Electric Zoo. Pretty Lights production style includes a combination of glitchy hip-hop beats, electronic, nu Jazz and vintage funk and soul.
Mumbai will also get to witness The Glitch Mob on 4th April. The American three-piece electronic music group from Los Angeles, California consists of edIT (Edward Ma), Boreta (Justin Boreta) and Ooah (Josh Mayer). The Glitch Mob is famous for their choice to perform live with laptops and MIDI controllers like the Lemur. They also showcased a new musical element called “The Blade” in 2014. It was built by movie set designers and comprised of a customized, painted set piece that housed both lights and instruments. The lineup for the pop up gigs scheduled to take place on the 2nd and 3rd April spiralling across the city includes EZ Riser, Aqua Dominatrix, Donn Bhat + Passenger Revelator and many more.
That’s not all that SPIRO has to offer. There is truly something for everyone. Apart from the stellar lineup in terms of music, it shall also play host to some great cinema and comedy. SPIRO shall showcase the best of contemporary indie culture. It will culminate in a day-long cultural takeover of Mehboob Studios, Bandra, featuring film screenings, stand-up acts including the likes of the extremely funny Hoezaay and Varun Thakur.
On 1st April, Blue Frog will play host to The ‘Indie Awkwards‘, an award show, honouring the best and the obvious of Indian Indie and shall feature performances by the very talented Split, Bombay Black and Blek. This shall act as the kickoff to 4 days of epic that shall eventually end with the stellar day lined up on 4th April at Mehboob Studios.
SPIRO will prove to be the ultimate destination for all music, comedy and cinema enthusiasts. So be sure not to miss out on this extremely unique experience.
