The Electric Daisy Carnival is the highly popular electronic dance music festival that every raver wants to attend atleast once in their lifetime. EDC, the festival has expanded from LA to many other prime locations such as Mexico, Puerto Rico,New York and now to Australia since it’s inception. Legally speaking though, EDC Australia is in troubled waters. The festival erected by Pasquale Rotella of Insomniac Events, is in the middle of a very heated legal battle over the trademark ownership of the name “Electric Daisy Carnival” in both the Australia.
In the midst of the legal battle, it has come to light that there were raves entitled Electric Daisy Carnival way back in the 80s and 90s conducted by Stephen Enos, better known as Los Angeles rave advocate Steve Kool-Aid. The name was ratified in 1997 by Pasquale Rotella.
The legal application was filed by Stephen Enos in June 2013 in Australia for the rights to the name “Electric Daisy Carnival” for the purpose of “live music concerts, disc jockey concerts, dance parties, music tours, musical and artistic performances and night clubs”. Six months later, Insomniac filed a counter application for complete ownership in Australia including everything from live music affairs to video recordings, energy drinks and temporary tattoos.
Currently, the legal proceedings are still underway. Even though EDC will not cease to exist at the loss of the name, only time will tell us who wins the title rights to the prestigious trademark that is “Electric Daisy Carnival”.
