Purists of the Detroit Techno scene, lived a memorable 2014, with a host of artists that would carry the weight of the seemingly limitless sound, into the forays of mainstream consciousness, through their unique and innovative sound. One artist, that has remained at the top – and shall probably remain there till all time comes to pass – is Richie Hawtin. Breathing a new lease of life to his Plastikman moniker through his on-point creative experiment EX, Hawtin showed how music with a vision, and a drive to unify dancefloor demons, can bring together a perfect melange of passion with the allure of Techno. Featured on our exclusive list of The Top 10 Albums of 2014, the album showcased a host of unique tracks, interwoven into a single narrative, one of the chapters which was ‘EXposed‘. Hawtin now invites the likes of Dixon, Recondite, Tale Of Us and Dubfire to reinvent tracks from his album, with the Deep Dish half-man Dubfire imposing himself into the Techno realm with his edgy and beautiful remix.
Dark & suave like the original, the remix brings an earnest attempt by Dubfire to up-the-tempo while remaining sacrosanct to the original driving bassline and mood. The dark swerving waveforms resonate in the background with the oscillating synth grooves returning time and again amidst an additional smacking bassline that glows in the depths of the dancefloor, calling out all the night freaks like a tribal meeting ritual. With his reunion with Sharam into Deep Dish last year announced, Dubfire wasn’t expected to conjure anything solo this year, but his emphatic vision over this track, retains him as one of the powerhouse producers that can single-handedly change any shape-shifting thoughtful Techno experiment into a peak-time dancefloor banger.
