Serbian DJ and producer Dirty South is all geared up for the release of his upcoming studio album, With You. And to complement the album, the producer has written, directed and shot a short film with the same name.
A rather unusual concept from a producer in an industry where singles are preferred over studio albums, Dirty South plans to break the stereotypes. Speaking in an interview with Billboard, he said “A lot of people assumed I was making a music video. I get the skepticism, the idea of a DJ making a movie probably rolled a few eyeballs, but it was really a serious project.”
According to Billboard
The film’s plot is a blend of science fiction and epic romance, following a young boy who falls in love with a girl from another planet. She has strange and hard-to-control powers, and accidentally erases his memory when they kiss as kids. They part ways for years, until he sets out on a quest to find her.
The music used in the film has an indie sound to it, giving us hints what the album could sound like.
The Serb plans to send the short film to various film festivals and the film will be screened in Los Angeles on August 11th, while the album is expected to be released on September 30th.
This whole move of releasing a a short film with an album could be a game changer for dance music, giving it a more concept driven direction, and giving more producers a chance to push their creative boundaries beyond music.
Check out the trailer of the short film here. And as Dirty South says for his latest project “See the album, hear the movie.”
