Two years ago during the month of March on the hallowed grounds of Miami Music Week, dance music’s biggest tycoons battled it out to secure the cup hosted for the unique charity event to benefit (RED) The art of mimicking Europe’s most celebrated game the FIFA World Cup became the premise and foundation for building this football event. As a part of the changing interest of dance music fans, Miami Music Week has always upped their caliber while hosting the world’s best DJs behind the decks.
This charity soccer game became a wonderful siesta to go down in the history of dance music forever as the days when producers and DJs from Sweden & Netherlands came out to play! Literally! On March 21st at noon (EST) two teams headed by Tiesto and Sebastian Ingrosso traded their console skills for kicks on the field to aid the fight against AIDS. The Dutch team captained by Tiesto comprised of teammates Afrojack, Nicky Romero, Quintino, Sidney Samson, R3HAB, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano who faced off against Swedish captain Sebastian Ingrosso and his teammates Alesso, Adrian Lux, Dada Life (both), AN21 and Otto Knows.
The game lasted for 30 minute periods with a ten minute break. With their pumped up kicks and traditional yellow outfits, Sweden’s finest producers challenged head on the robust Dutch were initially lagging behind with the Swedes taking the lead. (8:5), but the mighty army lead by Ingrosso fell, when Afrojack helped Tiesto lead the Dutch team into the halls of victory (final score: 13 to 11). Each of the artists’ jersey’s was set to be auctioned with proceeds going to the Global Fund, which is the recipient of contributions to RED, an organization dedicated to fighting AIDS in Africa. It was a wonderful day, where we witnessed our favorite producers and DJs, frolicking in the sun with a spirit of competitiveness and coming together all for a great cause.
