It seems that German artist Bartholomäus Traubeck is a firm believer of Maxi Jazz‘s famous quote “God is a DJ“! The Munich based artist has come with a unique and in-genuine idea of capturing musical patterns from nature, as he uses the ring data on various trees, and plays them on a record player to create complex yet harmonious melodies! As impossible as it sounds, the experiment is a success with results absolutely astounding.

Using a Playstation Camera and Ableton Live, Traubeck was able to pick up data from the ring grooves within Tree trunk sections, and thus recreate musical patterns that are unpredictable yet original. With Trees of the types of Spruce, Ash, Oak, Maple Alder, Walnut and Beech, each giving their own sound signatures, Traubeck has found a way to tap on Nature’s enormous potential of comforting us in yet another way! Check out the video below that shows a snippet of the experiment.
