Dutch sensation Nicky Romero recently opened up about his music production, his upcoming Miami compilation and the ever-engaging debate of ghost production ethics to American digital cable and satellite television channel Fuse TV. Speaking during the period of the EDM Christmas i.e Miami Music Week, he made some critical points regarding the topic of Ghost production and how artists without even basic knowledge of music programming are taking advantage of this trend.

 

Admitting to having been a Ghost producer himself for artists such as Britney Spears and David Guetta, Romero lashed out at “rich dads who pay for their son’s productions” and expressed disdain at the fact that they thus lack originality and creativity. Here are some excerpts from the interview.

 

What I really don’t like and what I really don’t respect and support is guys that go over email to producers and say, ‘Hey, I wanna have a record and it must sound like this’ and they are not involved at all. There are a lot of DJs that do that…They don’t even know how to make their music. They don’t even know how to start the software. That’s not right.

We spend so much time and effort making the sounds, making arrangements, finding the chords and everything and you just send an email saying, ‘I’m gonna pay you a certain amount of money and I wanna have a song.’ It’s just insane. It happens all the time. There are rich dads in this world that just pay for their sons and pay producers tons of money to have music out there and make them a big artist. But an artist is created by creativity and originality and discipline. It is not created by money.

 

With the debate ongoing as to what is the lengths a producer may goto, while following this trend of Ghost production, Romero’s point of view should be kept into account as he insists that he isn’t against the art, instead he’s against the oblivious nature of said artists.
